Only 7 days short of 1,000 and a jubilee gold Rolex from the police. So close, gotta be frustrating for the Russian fella.

Why is it doing a good thing ??? It highlights that people can potentially stay a few years before getting caught !!...   But really, what is the harm to the public caused by overs-stay

I don't think that'll fly, he could have asked for asylum 993 days ago.  Or maybe he just forgot that he needed asylum?

Not the only place Russians are overstaying, seems to be quite a second nature for these guys.

No he didn't, but perhaps for other reasons...?

This is what will happen if they run away - deported and the Gulag

Certainly has been going on that long. Russia annexed Crimea and has been arming pro Russia Ukrainian Paramilitaries since 2014.

So many reasons.
Not every man in the early 30s has wide ranging political reasons to change Russia for sunny easy life in Thailand. And if a young western man with a "powerful" passport tours the world instead of driving the hamster wheel it's called a time out.

Of course he could have personal problems back home, who knows.

Nobody finding the picture more disgusting than usual?

Placed on an office chair, barefoot with a parade of nine proud officers?

Indeed. shameful and unnecessary photo session.

Thought he had a bin-bag placed over his head for a moment !

Maybe if he punched one or two policemen in the face he would get a couple of years jail but save his life ????

what do you expect flowers and fruit? Make a public spectacle of these illegals, if it helps put one more off it's doing good.

But really, what is the harm to the public caused by overs-stayers in Thailand ?

Are they draining any resources ? taking jobs from Thais ?... those sorts of usual excuses.

The only difference between this guy and a ThaiElite visa holder is the amount of money paid that permits circumnavigation of the regulations.

The point I want to make here is that the ‘over-stay’ itself harms no one - its just a law made up by a committee of policy makers, unless of course this guy was also involved in illegal activity to maintain is stay here.

I get that the overstay is wrong / illegal - but bigger picture thinking makes me wonder, what harm is it actually doing to anyone & why do some people want to see these over-stayers hung from the rafters ?

Overstay that long is a 10 year ban, so it harms him and like minded illegals.

His punishment = being sent on the front line as cannon fodder god have mercy in his soul because it’s a 100% guarantee he will be sent to the front line

Sadly I doubt he will live long enough to return after 10 years as soon as he reaches Russian soil Putins henchmen will drag him off to the nearest military training camp two weeks training and off to the frontline to be killed

Russian man faces deportation after nearly 3 years of overstaying visa

By Peter Roche

image.jpeg

On Koh Pha Ngan in the Gulf of Thailand, a 34 year old Russian man has been arrested for overstaying his legal visa conditions by 993 days, 3 months shy of 3 years. Legally, the man was entitled to a 45 day visa exemption on arrival, although his pre-overstay visa situation has not been disclosed.

The Russian man’s name has been withheld, but immigration officers stated that he was arrested at a resort on the island and has been taken to the Koh Pha Ngan Police Station to face overstaying charges.

According to the authorities, the arrest was made as part of a crackdown on overstaying foreigners in Surat Thani. Immigration officers in the area have been conducting patrols, which include legal passport checks. The Russian national has been in the country illegally for almost three years and is now awaiting deportation back to Russia – probably not the best time to be deported as a 34 year old male back to Russia.

One must wonder how he was funding his stay?

8 against 1.....pretty average for Thai males

Probably a fugitive, wanted by police in his home country. Thousands of them are finding a safe heaven in Thailand.

Maybe crypto currency scams or other illegal activity.

Well, he could claim refugee status, but I doubt it would be approved. Russia is not a war zone, and according to his own Government, they are not even at war, just conducting a “special military operation”

Very silly boy; should have sorted out his status here long before 24th February 2022, because he’ll soon have the Red Army blues.

He didn't need it 993 days ago.
