Can you be specific. Which "more serious stuff" are you referring to? Colluding with Russia to cheat in an election? Encouraging his supporters to duff up and pour bleach on a poor black actor out for

Arresting a former President who will be the next candidate is a form of violence and an attempt to derail democracy. I don't like all that Trump does or says - he's a huge egoist - but this is obvious politics and will have huge ramifications for democracy.

Democracy would be in a lot more peril if Trump was re-elected, The Ukrainians would be the first to go under his watch, and he obviously would like to have the same power as Putin and Kim Jong Il.

How many times will Trump incite violence on the lie of a stolen election, before someone in the legal system lowers the boom on him.

Being a former President or the next candidate ( doubtful except to rabid acolytes ) is no excuse for criminality.

He can't win legitimately but assuming he's nominated, his maga goons will be much better ready next time with every coup trick in the book.

If he does gain power again, the American democracy will be totally over.

Wherever this leads the USA and indeed the world, it's worth noting that this is a major historical event.

Good point.  The happiest people in America today aren't the Dems but rather the traditional Republicans and conservatives.  These people despise Trump but were powerless/gutless to do anything about it.  But now the Dems have done the dirty work and these same Republicans can jump on the bandwagon and claim "political persecution," "election interference,"  blah blah blah, while celebrating Trump's demise.  The modern GOP.

By the end of this year the right wingers who wish that every story wasn't about Trump will get their wish.

Look, this guys was never just "one of us."  There are multiple books and articles going back to the 90s written on the subject.  The only strange thing is how poorly he was vetted when running for office.  I guess no one thought he'd win, and the media found covering him entertaining and profitable.

But if you read his history - books and articles published going back decades, you'll find:

Some think there's ample evidence that his family property business was involved in money laundering for the Italian mob at least as far back as the 80s.

Some think there's ample evidence that he became a confidential informant (CI) for the FBI against the Italian mob, in the 80s or 90s

Some think there's ample evidence that he merely used CI status for protection from crimes he did with the Italian mob. But once the Italian mob was vanquished, he just switched to money laundering for the Russian mob

Some think there's ample evidence that he continued money laundering for the Russian mob through his casinos, property developments, hotels and golf courses from the late 80s onwards

This guys was never just "one of us." The mistake he made was running for office. Likely he did it for publicity and money.  He never dreamed (nor did anyone else it seems) that he would actually get elected.

I think it is the responsibility of political parties to vet their candidates.

It would have been obvious to blind Freddy that Trump had no moral compass and was unfit for the task.

A distant police force had the information to protect its citizens, what happened in US.

Maybe Congress needs an investigation to plug the leak against future deviants.

Trump's bid for a Sydney casino in 1986 was rejected due to 'mafia connections’.

"Cabinet documents reveal police warned NSW government about approving a 1986-87 plan to build city’s first casino in Darling Harbour".

The first of many indictments to come. He could conceivably politically survive paying off a couple of hookers but but the election fraud and insurrection indictments yet to come. Even here, the court will need to reconcile sending Cohen to jail but not Trump. That will be hard to do.

One of my younger relatives voted for him, in 2016, and wrote a long post on FB explaining her decision. She was convinced that he was a genius business man (not based on any actual record, but due to watching The Apprentice and listening to her favorite radio talk show on long commutes), also that he was an "outsider" and therefore not "corrupt".   I think other of my relatives had similar views.

But this is the state that elected Peter Thiel's toy as Senator.  So maybe not high information types.

Here we see a representative of the base MAGA in full meltdown checking all the dog whistle boxes;

1. Claiming trump is being set up. CHECK.

2. The great liberal boogeyman Soros, but spelt Sorus so he sounds like an evil Egyptian god. CHECK

3. Hunter Biden. CHECK.

4. Some legal mumbo jumbo ("arrest Trump for a payment unrelated to politics" - what does that even mean??). CHECK.

Some Dems. have a different meaning to MAGA like Make America Garbage Again. The truth will all come out one day and sorry will be the first word on there lips?

And George Santos.

Of late, GOP seem to have become very lax in standards in the vetting department.

Seems these days having a moral compass is not a pre-requisite in the GOP.

Oh, so Biden isn't corrupt. Those Chinese payments to the Biden family are all fake news. Only Trump is corrupt?

We should have a thread on that, this isn’t it.

The same could be said about Trump. But it doesn't stop the Dems from trying to stop Trump running for President.

Did you miss the bit about a Grand Jury handing down an indictment?

3 hours ago, Chomper Higgot said:

Let’s see what the actual indictments are.

So far, they seem to pertain only to the potentially weakest area, and that is the Stormy hush money. It is a huge strategic error in my opinion. Either that, or it is a deliberate way to get around having to convict the crime lord.

Let me correct you.

We haven’t seen the indictments.

Trump and his supporters are broadcasting the strawman argument that it’s about payments to Stormy Daniels.

We don’t know, all we do know is there is at least one criminal indictment.

We’ll find out the truth of the matter soon enough.

Meanwhile, I’m not willing to do amplify the strawman Trump and his supporters are peddling.

Bragg had to indict to pacify his far left supporters because he promised to "Charge Trump If Elected"  The feds already chose not to pursue this case.  Nothing will happen, Trump will now certainly be the 2024 Republican candidate, and America is even closer to banana republic status

OK, look I like Trump but if he is guilty of anything then he should be prosecuted.

BUT, this is an incredibly bad prosecution - it is based on payments to a porn star for an alleged affair she says never happened, and the main witness (who made the payment from his own funds) has been put in prison for perjury and is on record as saying Trump was not involved and he would do anything to stay out of prison !!! Statute of limitation also has expired. It is also being done buy a heavily Democratic DA that ran on a 'get Trump' agenda in a heavily democratic state. No other legal body would touch this. This is pure politics to stop Trump. Even most of the people on here I would say can see this and would suggest going after him on other issues.

All that this will lead to is now is heavily republican states - say Florida and Desantis - deciding to get his DA to bring charges of bribery against Biden and Biden will be indicted too - and the case for bribery against Biden seems far stronger than to payments to a porn star, that she says never happened, paid by someone other than the person indicted !

This is truly a whole new world for US politics.

Listening to all the experts like Turley and Dershowitz the last few weeks has given me more confidence to reject the radical left attempts to arrest the leading candidate of their opposition party!

You'll find it was a jury that indicted Trump based on evidence presented to them. If I was you I'd wait to hear the contents of the indictment as soon as its revealed, apparently over 30 counts on it. Then you can listen to your experts on Fox putting their unique spin on it as the court case proceeds.
