Pattaya — Pattaya locals and rescuers rescued an unlucky American man who fell and got trapped in a sewer last night, May 16th. The man said he fell into the sewer around noon and wandered down there for hours.

At around 8 PM yesterday, rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Thamasathan Foundation responded to a report of a tourist being stuck in a sewer on Soi Thep Prasit 8 in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, and rushed to help.

At the scene, a crowd of Pattaya residents were trying to lift a sewer lid to aid an individual, who seemed to be a foreigner, trapped inside. With combined efforts, the rescuers and residents removed the cover, and successfully extracted the individual from the approximately 60 cm wide and 1.5 meter deep sewer.

Rescuers told The Pattaya News that the victim was indeed a foreigner, but they could not immediately identify his name, although they stated that he was an American national. The victim looked disheveled, disoriented, and extremely weary, rescuers said.

Judging by his tattoos in the last picture of the original article, it is clearly a Pattaya quality tourist.

American tourist rescued from 4-hour nightmare in Pattaya sewers

An American tourist was rescued from the sewers beneath Pattaya, eastern Thailand, yesterday after getting trapped in the murky, pungent pipe system for more than four hours.

A security guard was bewildered when he heard a voice coming from beneath a covered drain at the entrance of Soi 8 Thep Prasit, Moo 11, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district. He followed the sound and called for help right away when he saw the foreign man, wearing a single pair of shorts, submerged in Pattaya’s subterranean wastewater.

The trapped tourist attracted a crowd by the time rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were called to the scene at 7.30pm. Rescue workers removed the iron sewer grate and successfully pulled the tourist out of the three-metre-deep hole. The American was clearly exhausted and asked for water from the rescue team.

Tourist Police and officers from Mueang Pattaya Police Station travelled to the scene to find out what happened to the tourist, who introduced himself as 36 year old Jonathan from America.

Jonathan informed the police that he arrived in Thailand on Friday, May 12, and was travelling with his girlfriend, also American. The couple had been staying at a condo along the Thappraya Road about two kilometres from wear Jonathan was rescued.

The Brit bashers are going to be terribly disappointed....

The tourist was unharmed, however, he was still disoriented and could not speak properly. Immigration and tourist police took him to a police station to rest and were attempting to identify him as of press time.

At least take him to hospital to get checked out and get some shots... the smallest graze can turn into something horrific when infected in such an environment.

He’d do well to take a course of broad-band antibiotics while he’s at it (as a precaution to what ever nasties he breathed in, touched, grazed himself on etc).

Yup....   this story does have ‘weed’ written all over it...

(some bright spark is surely bound to pipe up and tells us there is nothing in the article which states he’d consumed / smoked weed...  we have no proof... post a link..etc etc.. )

Leptospirosis, sewer workers disease or "rat piss" disease.

Also hit people up here.

The difference being this guy (American) wasn't hurting anyone else.

The story is not a sad one, it's just stupidly funny.

Why on earth would you wonder around in the sewers, instead of staying put and calling out? :stoner::hit-the-fan::burp:

When I first got here in 2006, I got a minor scrape on my ankle from some weed I brushed up against. The ensuing infection was very nasty. They have very different cooties over here, it takes a while for the body to build up natural immunities to them.

Fortunately, Pattaya sewers have a built in safety feature.

They are designed to flow backwards and flood the roads during storms to eject quality tourists living in the pipes.

Walking to where he did, awful as it was, seems to have worked

Whenever I click on one of these bizarre, nightmare stories on the right column of AN, for some reason I always find it takes me to the Pattaya forum.
