UPDATE: A frail and ill Roger Bullman, after a nightmare of nearly four years on the run, is recovering in Oslo with his family while police in the Norwegian capital plan to have the case transferred from Thailand to Norway to conduct their own murder enquiry. The Norwegian hopes that he will not be charged in the matter and has reiterated his 2019 claims of having acted in self-defence when attacked in his room by the victim wielding a knife.

Fugitive from Thai justice, Roger Bullman, who arrived home in Oslo last Saturday, the 27th of May, is still at liberty in the Norwegian capital and will not be returned to Thailand under any circumstances according to police in the Scandinavian country. It is understood that Norwegian authorities now propose to investigate the death of the 34-year-old UK man killed by the Norwegian on August 21st 2019 and it is expected that the case will be transferred from Phuket in Thailand to Norway to facilitate the process.

 

The matter is likely to be treated as a murder enquiry but there is no confirmation that criminal charges will be brought against the 57-year-old who is reported to be suffering from chronic ill health after nearly four years of stress on the run in Southeast Asia as he tried to make his way home to see his young daughter again. The girl was only four years of age when he left with his partner in August 2019 for a holiday in the sun in Thailand that turned into a nightmare which, although not yet over, looks like it is coming to an end.

 

Reports from Norway where fugitive from justice 57-year-old Roger Bullman returned home on Saturday morning the 27th of May last, suggest that the Norwegian family man is recuperating from poor health before he is questioned by police.

In the unlikely event he was found guilty in Oslo, they have the best prisons in the world, more like a hotel?

The maximum sentence length in Norway is 21 years, but there are currently political debates about raising it to 25 years. However, you can get a punishment that says you will be in prison until you are rehabilitated and pose no danger to society (forvaring), effectively having the potential of a life sentence.

Being norwegian myself i hope he for gods sake get some kind kind of punishment.

Killing other people is wrong, and normal decency would have been stopped singing if other people asked him to.

Tell that to Juilan Assange.  There are many reasons to run from "justice", like when you are being falsely accused.  And in my personal view, nobody on this forum knows what really happened. Truth is unlikely to come out.  How can the Norwegians investigate a murder in Thailand?  And who trusts the Thai government to investigate?  I would just say an eye for an eye, extradite the guy and try him here where he allegedly committed the crime.

Canada just extradited one of their's to Thailand.

(Thailand gave assurances that there would be no death penalty).

Murder can carry the death sentence in Thailand, which is probably why European countries will not extradite back to Thailand.

The consequences of self-defense are a real problem around the world. If the attacker dies, you'll likely be accused of murder even if there are witnesses. It depends on corruption of the Police sometimes as to what will happen.

So he going to get away with murder, stop using his ill health as an excuse, he committed a crime  he needs to do the time behind bars, I hope the family in the UK will persuade and get justice

Oh yes they do. When they do not have alot of money, and are being pursued by the Thai police. I know people who have been locked up here, for next to nothing, because they could not come up with a million baht, to buy their way out. Whether he is guilty or innocent, the Swedish police are 100x more competent than the Thai police, and infinitely less corrupt.

Self defense?? I remember this brutal killing clearly.  The Norwegian broke into the Indian man's room and attacked and killed the man in front of his wife.  Total raging lunatic.  Photographic evidence everywhere.

 

Just another killer who walks:, the Brit who killed his wife on Soi Honey Inn in Pattaya, The Swede who killed the New Zealander over a fight about a dog in Pattaya, The Northern Irishman who killed a bar girl, stuffed her in a suitcase and took a taxi to the airport, the guy who killed the Nana Plaza bargirl.  All arranged huge bail and skipped.

Only Breivik and a few others ever got maximum in Norway, so not likely. He might get 7 years for murder, and out after 3 - 4 years. 

 

Prisons in Norway is human, and ment to bring criminals back to a normal life after finished their sentence. 

Being a Norwegian, I feel ashamed he is not transfered back to face a trial there! 

 

He murdered a man, and if proven Bullman killed the family father in their room, no mercy! 

May look frail and maybe in Ill health but still breathing and unlike the brit he can see his family again. You dont run if you did nothing wrong not even in Thailand

The article does not mention the British family man who was strangled to death in front of his wife and infant son. I guess that would diminish the sympathy drive.

Fair enough, I've come to be against the death penalty because inevitably, innocent people will be executed, and there is no appeal after the gallows.  Kind of hypocritical of a society to accept that cost in my view, while pearl-clutching over the crime of murder.

Do you really think that the police especially in Thailand never make any false accusations and the legal process here never produces unfair convictions?  If not, then would you concur that there are times when an innocent person runs from the police?

Whether he is guilty or not is irrelevant, at least now he will get a fair investigation and a fair trial.

Something that he would not have got in Thailand.

In Scandinavia it's common that you shall feel pity for the criminals, like in the here...
