only if you feel like a champ.

Make that "chump" instead of "champ".

‘Champ’ is an Aussie slur, origination from the prisons of Victoria…

A few etymological reasons, not sure which is correct:

1) Rhyming with ‘tamp’ (tamper ; to tamper with) & is basically calling someone a kiddie fiddler.

2) Someone who performs in return oral for ‘champion ruby tobacco’..

it’s basically more offensive than the ‘c-bomb’ to Australians…

So, in this context ‘only if you feel like a champ’ is perhaps apt…

If you are a big-breasted, attractive female in your 20's it is O.K. with me.

The way they dress nowadays might aswell be ok.  Next is to walk naked. Future generations though. Sorry. Im not muslim,  but I'm not really for women showing off there bits publicly.

"...so I heard..."

Is that equal to "just asking for a friend?"

Sorry, I did not 'hear' it, I read it, probably on this Forum.

You construe it as whatever you want.

ChatGPT was a YES, it's OK, but Bing says.....is it illegal to not wear underwear in thailand - Search (bing.com)

It is illegal to drive a car shirtless.   You can walk around without a shirt but the Thai people generally do not like it.  You will be considered "lo-so mak".

And it is also illegal to ride a motorcycle without a shirt.

Up until the early 20th century, many Thai women used to go around topless.

I wonder why that particular element of "Thainess" is no longer promoted.

I am only mildly curious to learn if it was primarily Christian Missionary pressure, as is documented in so many other cultures, or if it was a Thai motivated change primarily to be seen as an advancing country.

Dear all,

It is very hot in Thailand.

Thanks

Please don't. It doesn't matter what anybody else does. You complain it's hot in Thailand, go somewhere else then. Go to Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and walk around shirtless.

Modernize or be colonized was the fear that the 'west' was going to use the barbarism as excuse to colonize Siam then

There's a time & place for everything.

At a beach or holiday type location, then do as you please.  But in a metro area, as implied with photos in OP, probably not.

Thinking back, I've never went topless if strolling around Philly, no matter how brutally hot it was.

Around my urban home town (suburbia Philly), yes, or just a shirt unbuttoned was more like it, just as I do here quite a bit, if not trying to avoid the sun, which has been my thing lately, where we live now/PKK.

Of late if sun's out, it's been long sleeves & pants, on the scooter and walking around, as I was looking a bit too much like a chocolate person.

There might be other unwritten acceptable rules for Thais, than for foreigners. It's not well-seen dress code, especially in town or city areas, while it's accepted in beachfront tourist destinations by the beach area that foreign men walks with naked breasts.
