Two cases of new COVID Omicron sub-variant reported in Thailand

This may be a bigger concern to worry about regarding a different and highly mutated COVID variant beginning to spread around the globe, including to Thailand:

It's mentioned in the very final paragraph of the OP news report here:

"As for the BA.2.86 sub-variant, he said that it was detected in waste water in Bangkok in July, but it has not been found in humans yet, although the sub-variant is being kept under watch."

From other reports on the same topic:

"Regarding the highly mutated BA.2.86 virus, which it recently deemed a variant of interest, the WHO said as of August 23, nine sequences have been reported from five countries. No epidemiological sequences were reported among the patients, and no deaths were reported. Also, two countries—Switzerland and Thailand—have reported the virus in wastewater."

Covid Variant BA.2.86 Detected In Thailand Wastewater: Scientist

By CodeBlue | 25 August 2023

KUALA LUMPUR, August 25 – The BA.2.86 variant has been detected in Thailand through wastewater sample analysis, adding to the list of countries that have reported the presence of the highly mutated Covid-19 strain.

Dr Leshan Wannigama, a physician scientist at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Infection Control at Yamagata Prefectural Hospital in Japan, posted on X last Wednesday about his findings.

“After sequencing the SARS-CoV-2 S gene and carefully analysing the data with existing BA.2.86 data I can confirm that our Thailand wastewater samples [are] positive for BA.2.86.”

What you need to know about BA.2.86, the new ‘highly mutated’ COVID variant

What is BA.2.86? The new, highly mutated "Pirola" variant may be more capable of causing infection in people who are vaccinated or previously had COVID-19, the CDC says.
...

“The critical thing about this variant (BA.2.86) is that it has a whole host of mutations compared to some of the omicron variants that emerged about two years ago,” says Pekosz.

The mutations or changes in the virus sequence can affect how contagious a virus is, how well it responds to treatment and how severely it affects people, per the CDC.

“It represents a highly mutated form of SARS-CoV-2,” says Pekosz — in other words, BA.2.86 looks very different from the prevailing omicron XBB subvariants circulating."

be in fear

Nobody is in fear but you.

You want to censor all bad news?

Perhaps just stick you're head in the sand or read comic books if real life events upset you so much.

I assume people wearing masks upsets you also, right?

Ugh.

So it all depends on whether, from your own political perspective, you consider North Korea to be "far left" or not.

A lot of 'covidiots' and antivaxxers and conspiracy theorists might not have been that far off the mark 3 years ago.

Who is in fear? It's just information for the public. The only people who keep trying to push any fear on others are people like you. Fear that there is some sort of agenda by the always vague "They".

Well it's been a while. Time for the next article recommending getting jabbed.  This variant is just another Omicron variant so you would expect similar symtoms i.e. symptoms akin to the common cold. This thing will probablly go on for decades continuing to mutate or until it mutates to a point it is no longer highly transmissible and dies out. Some of the most vulnerable will succumb but the vast majority who get infected will recover with a % not even knowing they've had it i.e. asymptomatic.

Found in just one family, and they've recovered.

Next story please.

Two new cases of COVID-19 Omicron sub-variant HK.3 infection have recently been detected in Thailand, but both patients have already recovered and their symptoms were not serious, said Dr. Supakit Sirilak, director-general of the Medical Sciences Department today (Wednesday).

He said that the two cases, a 65-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl, were members of the same family in Bangkok who were diagnosed with HK.3 and have already recovered, adding that it will take about two weeks to determine whether the new sub-variant is highly transmissible.

He disclosed that, during the past two weeks, 15 cases of the EG.5 sub-variant had been detected, plus 8 more cases more recently, as the sub-variant is spreading with the likelihood that it may replace XBB.1.16 as the dominant sub-variant in Thailand.

Our boosters are all up to date and we are still double masking with N95 class protection whenever we leave the house so I'm reasonably confident we will survive the next phase. It's better to be safe than dead folks! Double masking is not expensive. We buy them by the 100 pack and they are very very reasonably priced. Well worth the money. I think everybody needs to ask themselves. What's your life worth? Stay safe folks. ????

Just another Omicron sub-variant. Very few cases globably. Yes it has subtatial spike protien mutations but every sub-variant has mutations that's why they're called sub-variants. Can you explain to us why this "may be" of concern?

Oh look, a Covid variant "news" item. Is it 2022?

Sure, there will continue to be new variants all the time, but so what? The pandemic is over, Covid is endemic.

  • Popular Post

The Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Romans all the way through the Inquisition, Napoleon, Stalin, Hitler, Kim Il Sung, Pol Pot or Newin had one thing in common. They scared their underlings for power and, regretfully, were mostly successful. Covid 19 was no different; most governments misused this highly contagious flu to scare the "*ç% out of people and creamed off zillions of dollars in "fighting" against humanity's nemesis.

This planet has been facing the ever-evolutionary flu, all originating from the virological family of corona.
Knowing what we know now about "Covid 19" these days, it is up to each and every individual to query the serious threat to society based on "two new cases" of a flu virus. Latter is evolutionary and will do everything to survive by adopting continuously.

Every North European or North American can confirm, that flu is, predominantly, a standard "winter nuisance"; some years you come down with the flu, other years your body manages to sail through without impact.

Every year a few hundred thousand (mostly elderly or people with health pre-conditions) regretfully die on health deficits which are facilitates by the weakening of an evolving flu virus. "Pure" flu deaths exist as well but it is almost impossible to put a percentage on that small number.

I took the public statistics of an European country and compared the total number of citizen living in the country and compared the total number of deaths in the same country - over 20 years. And, guess what, no spikes nowhere. Before you would die of cancer or heart weakness, the last few years you saw "Covid" in lieu of the afore-mentioned. It is like AIDS, nobody dies of AIDS but the body's weakening due to AIDS facilitates the death which a person might avoid, if NOT infected with AIDS.

In closing, be careful and keep an eye on your health but keep the whole subject within reason and common sense. Two cases in a population of 70+ million ...........?  The blackmailers now will refer to "it always starts with two cases" - your call!

I know plenty of people who've had a bit of a 'heavy cold' for 3 to 5 days recently (last few months) with about an additional week to full recovery.

Nobody that I know who's had it seems to be reporting it to anybody, cold medicines help and it goes away quickly.

I had it myself recently after a night out, as did the Mrs.

My point here is that if nobody's reporting it to anybody then they won't know about it. For it to show up in waste water in Bangkok means there's a significant number of people being infected, they're just not going for any kind of treatment - probably because it doesn't require anything you can't find at the pharmacy - or anything at all.

When I had it all I took was a decongestant, I didn't even take anything for the fever as is was barely noticeable, I fixed that by altering the AC temperature.

I had it at the end of July and, out of curiosity tested (positive) for covid. Bingo! One day of fever, mild chills, a week of snotty congestion and a couple of weeks feeling a bit heavy. No big deal.

Sounds very similar to my experience although it seemed to clear up a bit quicker for me, there was a lingering throat clearing thing that lasted around a week - a slight annoyance.

Now what really bugs me is that they took the pseudoephedrine based decongestants off the market due to commercial scale drug manufacturers using it in massive quantities to make meth or something like that. None of the alternatives work for me at all at any dose.

So due to the actions of these gangsters I can no longer buy the most effective thing that dries up your nose 100% while you're taking them and I had to ration the few capsules I had left (Benadryl Plus from the UK - not the same as the US product I believe) for night time use so I could sleep properly - sleeping with a runny / blocked nose never works for me.

That was my biggest concern during the week I had it - clearing my blocked nose so I could sleep well.

I had a heavy cold that lasted a few days more than a normal pre 2020 cold.

Repeat infections with COVID appear to cause exponential damage, particularly to the circulatory system, with an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, and the brain, with an increased risk of dementia  - infection is essentially vasculitis. With children we have no idea what the long term consequences will be.

But you just keep on doing what you do, pal, and I'll keep wearing a mask and getting a vaccination. See who lasts longer in better health, eh?

Either

1- this news is to deflect what's really happening in the government.

or

2- Lord Thaksin's pardon and return to public life will save the day, and we will all forget about him being such a naughty boy!

Try Nasol spray or Nasolin pills. I used both during the heavy congestion stage. Nasol spray should get you breathing easily at night.

I proudly got my 5th shot a couple of weeks ago. Keep your shots up to date to minimize the effects of Covid. Friend of mine had a very bad case of covid that lasted two weeks. It's still around and can kill you.

Always fascinating to encounter the American anti-social concept of 'freedom'. Not to mention the peculiar association of the colour red with the political right, and blue with the political left. The great Usofan republic leading the world ...

Meanwhile back in the real world ... In Oz the current advice I saw  3 or 4 weeks ago was that the new round of viruses was highly infectious but likely less nasty than the Omicron round. And on the basis that most people (in Oz) have now reasonable levels of resistance to covid (because of previous infection +/or vaccines) people should wait  3 or 4 or 6 months before getting the latest round of all-inclusive vaccines still being readied for distribution. (Which probably means we won't see the latest vaccines here in Thailand till some time next year).

One, two, The world governments' excuse to take what's yours is coming for you
Three, four, better lock your door
Five, six, grab your crucifix
Seven, eight, better stay up late
Nine, ten, never sleep again

Covidiots, conspiracy theorists and antivaxxers are still that. Utterly stupid!

The local "flu" is not pleasant. Slow to kick in and then a peak over a few days and then slow to wind down - look forward to it keeping you company for 10 - 12 days. Not a 48 hour bug. This one delivers a persistent throaty cough and lethargy ... but not enough to keep you in bed ... just drags you down a bit. Two negative covid tests and in my opinion was more persistent and nasty than when I had Covid.

Two new cases of Covid Omicron,    and  61,267 cases of annual Flu....even more  cases of road traffic accidents, but we don't talk about that..... do we

I see variant BA.2.86 is mentioned; which is interesting, as this variant seems to have peculiar qualities.

This is the one I get a kick out of, the exaggerated count included traffic accidents, heart attacks and anyone who died with a trace of the virus in their body that died from other causes were put on the covid death list. Nothing is beneath these f-ing desperate wretch’s

The exact same people fearfully quoting Covid death statistics as though SARS-Cov-2 is a new form of The Black Plague never seem to go back to Pre-2020 and look at the epidemiological death stats for the annual flu and pneumonia stats.  Yep, those annual Influenza death stats pre-2020 look amazingly like  <drum roll> post-2020 Covid death statistics - and at the same time, influenza cases and death completely disappear.

By the way, prior to 2020 the mass media and government agencies never kept a rolling death count over multiple years for any form of influenza, dengue, rabies, viral pneumonia, or any other viral pathogen.
Yet they do exactly that for Covid.  And they constantly quote it.  Why?  It produces maximum fear among the plebs, which seems to be the point.  It's a form of agitation-propaganda that is a product of very sick minds.
