Bad Biden polls stoke third-party angst for Democrats

New polls showing President Biden tied or trailing several GOP presidential candidates and deep concerns among voters over his age are stoking Democratic angst about third-party candidates “stealing” a victory in November 2024. 

Democrats have long been worried that in a close race, a third-party candidate could be the difference between winning and defeat in hard-fought states such as Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin or even Florida. 

But the new polling is exacerbating unease that liberal candidate Cornel West or a centrist contender backed by No Labels could end up being spoilers for Biden.   

Groups on the left are among those expressing discontentment, arguing that the only candidates who will have a chance to actually win the White House are Biden and the eventual Republican nominee. 

“The 2024 presidential election is a binary choice between Joe Biden and the MAGA GOP nominee,” Rahna Epting, executive director of MoveOn, told The Hill on Thursday. 

She pointed her criticism squarely at No Labels, which has seen an influx of attacks from all corners of the party in recent weeks. “That’s why we are so alarmed that, despite this urgent and unique moment of peril for our democracy, No Labels remains determined to push forward with a reckless 2024 third party bid.”

The challenge is that most Dems do not want Joe to run.  They will vote for him if they have to but would prefer that someone other than he or Kamala runs.  Actually, i would love to see her run because it would be interesting to see how long she lasts this time before she withdraws.

Most people look at California as a failure, so that rules out Newsome.  NYC is about the same so that is out.  

There is no way anyone would vote for AOC or her friends

They will present the best candidate based on the election to be fought.

 

If it is Biden/not Biden then that is not an issue.

 

Oddly though, Republicans spend an awful lot of time denigrating Biden, if he were what the Republicans claim they’d be quiet hoping that he is the final Dem Candidate.

I wouldn't worry too much about current polls.  Yeah, everybody will say Joe Biden is too old, somebody else should run, we need younger blood, yadda yadda yadda.  But when it comes time to vote and the choices are Biden or Trump, Biden will win every time.  Because seriously, most Democrats and moderates know what's really going on.  This comment is from just another normal guy....

Quite a stretched to say that nobody can compete with Trump when he was soundly beatened in 2020, lost the senates and barely made the majority party in the mid-term election. To the Maga folks, he is the messiah and he think he is a demigod but to the majority he is vile corrupt narcissistic grifter, unfit to be a leader of even a school board lest a formal President. America has sank to new low with a candidate with such qualities.

Oh boy!reality check!trump was soundly defeated in 2020 then attempted a coup (that’s why the law is after him)all trump’s candidates were defeated in the midterm elections,the republicans barely squeaked a majority in the House even when we were suffering a 9% inflation rate!he created a 25% gain in our debt for absolutely no gain other than to sugarfeed the economy to make himself look good.he blew the Covid response causing 10s of thousands of avoidable American deaths(I’ll follow the science not injecting bleach and sticking a light up my rear)dear lord! Soundly?  If Covid restrictions hadn't driven unprecedented changes in the way votes were collected, Trump would have won 2020.  Easily.  Repubs tend to vote on the day.  Dems tend to vote by mail (if the option's available).  

 

I absolutely agree in the sorry state of politics when either one of those guys were the best the USA were allowed to vote for.
