On October 26th, at 5:00 PM, a combined force of over 30 officers from the SWAT unit of the 8th region and Phuket Immigration Department surrounded and raided a luxurious beachside villa in Kamala, Phuket.

Their operation targeted foreigners staying beyond their visa limits in Thailand and other legal violations, reported Thai Rath.

As the officers initiated their search, one of the foreign men, reportedly from India named Vanuatu, was found in the villa overstaying his visa.

During the initial stages, the officers from the Phuket Immigration Department and Phuket Tourist Police with the investigative team from Chalong Police Station approached with an arrest warrant.

However, they were seen by the suspect via the villa's security cameras. With only four officers present, the suspect and his associates attacked, injuring the officers.

After the assault, reinforcements from the SWAT team were called in.

The ensuing operation resulted in the arrest of five foreign men. All are currently under investigation, with the primary suspect in custody for further questioning.

I'm sure the Thai police aren't afraid to use sticks (just like the Indian police) on criminals, especially when the criminals attack the police.

Happy to note that now those criminals who are one day past their visa expiration date will receive a visit from the combined force of over 30 officers from the SWAT unit.

I feel more confident now living in Thailand.

More than 30 Thai police officers clashed violently with six overstaying foreigners at a luxury villa on Bang Tao Beach in Phuket during an arrest operation. Four Thai officers were injured in the incident.

Four officials from the Phuket Provincial Immigration Office, accompanied by officers from the Cheng Talay Police Station, conducted a raid on a luxury villa armed with an arrest warrant for an Indian man accused of making threats and instilling fear in the public.

However, upon reaching the villa, the Indian man was conspicuously absent. Instead, the officers encountered a Russian man and requested to inspect his documents. The Russian man had exceeded the duration of his visa, leading the officers to plan his transfer to the police station for further legal action.

Unexpectedly, the situation took a drastic turn as another foreigner emerged from concealment within the villa, brandishing a baseball bat and attempting to strike four officers. Faced with this imminent threat, the officers had to withdraw and call for assistance from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.

If they were all issued 90 day visas there would be none of this.

Other reports have no mention of an Indian ( named Vanuatu?) and simply say that 5 Russians attacked the police.

Stricter visa rules are required!

Thailand has long become a safe heaven for foreign criminals and fugitives from all over the world including Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, China, Kore, Nigeria, Kazakhstan etc.

How can they get such basic info wrong. They're definitely Indian in the photos on the fb page, if that's them sitting down. And some tattooed dude who could be anyone. Harley bikes and a hillside villa... more to this story than simple overstay.

Gangsters doing gangster things. This is what you get when you fling open the gates to anyone with a passport. Most "quality tourist" are not looking to stay on holiday for more than 30 days. Just the sketchy ones.

On the other hand, you could just read the article properly.

In fairness crime can be controlled by making things more difficult for old men on retirement extensions.

I think you will find that a Deputy Chief of Police said they were "too easy" and should be tightened up.
