Foreigner Assaults Phuket Tuk Tuk Driver Over Fare Disagreement

The episode of a foreigner physically assaulting a tuk tuk driver in Phuket, identified only as Abdulloh, was captured via dash cam and shared by two Facebook users.

As per Abdulloh's father's explanation, the conflict arose over the trip fare from Patong to Karon beach, which was charged at 400 baht.

According to the shared video clip, visible on Hod Chang Changwat Phuket and Oiltuktukpatong Saranate Facebook pages, the fare disagreement occurred when the unidentified tourist paid only 100 baht insisting he had given 500 or 1000 baht and demanded the rest as change.

The dispute escalated quickly as the tourist slapped and attempted to choke Abdulloh for not returning the alleged overpayment.

After reporting the incident to the local police, Abdulloh and his father were instructed to summon the foreigner to the police station. However, when approached at his hotel, the tourist declined the police meeting.

Abdulloh's father revealed that while incidents of fare evasion have occurred in the past, the demand for additional money this time was intolerable. He believes that this event raises serious concerns about the treatment of local workers by foreign tourists.

  • The amount is irrelevant - if the fare was 400 baht and 1000 baht was given over, the customer is entitled to his change! It's a scam! And the fact that the baht bus/tuk tuk driver "makes a pitta

I'd really like to hear the tourists side, before, like of you, jumping to any conclusions  we already know many tuk tuk drivers do scam tourists.

  • Obviously one more moron who doesn't believe that tuk tuk drivers have a reputation for trying to scam their customers?

Drinking a beer with a British accent.

I don't know what all the fuss was about, Seems really weird that he gets violent over a few hundred baht.

I thought the unemployment benefits paid well in England.

The cops organised tea and scones and Abdulloh declined, it's just not British old chap.

Nasty encounter, shouldn't happened because of a misunderstanding, yet, the physical assault was

utterly uncalled for and action should be taken against the passenger...

Another hi-end tourist losing his cool over a few hundred baht,

I did not know that you could "decline a police meeting." Interesting. While I have always practiced staying under the radar (except for the one time we went to get a massage in the city and when we left it was dark and I couldn't see much out of my sunglasses driving back to the village! and maybe a few others I've forgotten) it is good to know that if the police ever come round, I will politely decline their "meeting".

100 Thai Baht equals 2.15 Pound sterling. That's barely enough for a pack of gum in the UK?
Yeah, that's worth getting into an altercation and risking the other guy having a weapon on him or having friends nearby gang up on you.
And the violent altercation being filmed.
Some people lack survival skills.
But then again, he was drunk.
Which is one reason I don't drink much. Act stupid in public and get yourself killed.

I guess the farang didn’t know you discuss how much with the driver before getting in.

Another 2 week Millionaire PUNK throwing his weight about.

Maybe he had given the driver more, but there are civilised means to fix these issues.

Vanker.

Seemed to be 'I gave you 1000' sort of disagreement.

Which was why he was saying 'show me what I paid you with'

That is reasonable - I don't think that was part of the equation.

I'm sure when the immigration police "request" a meeting, he won't decline.

These increasing events are an indication of the lower end tourists Thailand is now attracting. There are many reasons for this, which we have gone over, time and again. Violence is rarely ever called for, especially over small sums is money. What a creep.

So the police are so lazy now that they want the victim to summon his attacker?

The argument was over the change not the price.

A week in jail and deportation would seem about right. This crap will continue until some lessons are learned.

If people can't control themselves, kick them out.

It depends how you define scam.

It's 100 baht, not 10 000 baht.

Is it fair that you were born in a western country where you can afford to fly to thailand 3 times a year and a baht bus driver makes a pittance?

Is it still a scam?

Dishonest doesn't call for violence. The brit was lucky no machete was pulled out and 5 other Thai didn't beat the crp out of him.

How can the police not just go and arrest him as it's quite clear what happened on video !

Obviously far too busy to bother 🙄

As for the clown who thinks he's hard , I would have liked to have seen him do that at a taxi rank . He would bet set upon by about 10 people using his empty head as a football.

Try reading the article instead of just the headline before commenting. If you did read it, then you clearly didn't understand it.

Much of what is wrong in Phuket in a single video .. trailer trash tourism and tuk tuk drivers known in general for their own cheating ways, over pricing and aggressive driving habits.
