In a tragic accident in Kamala, Phuket, a British woman lost her life. Zoe Lucket (65), was killed by a speeding passenger van that charged through a red light at a main intersection on May 5th. The powerful impact reportedly flung her 20 meters down the road, resulting in immediate death.

 

Shortly after, an ambulance transported her remains to Patong Hospital, where her death was confirmed. However, the seriousness of the accident hasn't been recognized by Kamala Police, who have yet to comment about the incident.

 

Police in Phuket reported that the CCTV cameras at the site were not working, leaving the accident unrecorded. Several businesses nearby offered their CCTV footage, but the police declined. 

 

Moreover, a source close to Lucket mentioned that the van driver was not required to undertake an alcohol test post-accident. The informant also raised concerns about the escalating fatal incidents after the road was expanded into a four-lane highway.

 

They stressed the need for traffic-control measures, such as speed humps and proper signage, to control speeding vehicles and prevent further catastrophic accidents. They asserted that the cost of implementing these safety measures was insignificant in comparison to preserving human life.

 

Lucket was a long-term resident of Kamala and her untimely death has left the local community, including the expatriates, in deep sorrow.

British Expat Killed in Kamala Hit-And-Run

A British expatriate, named Zoe Lucket, tragically lost her life in a shocking road accident in Kama, Thailand on May 5th. The collison between the van she was driving and another vehicle was so forceful that she was thrown 20 metres away from the accident site. 

 

On arrival, paramedics transported her to Patong Hospital where she was proclaimed dead on arrival. Despite the severity of the event, Kamala Police haven't yet commented.

 

Local residents were dismayed to learn that nearby CCTV cameras were not operational when the accident occurred, meaning there's no video evidence of the tragic incident. Offers of alternative CCTV footage from local businesses were also declined by the police.

 

Adding to the community's grief and frustration, one unnamed expat, closely associated with the deceased, alleged the driver of the other vehicle was not tested for alcohol after the incident.

 

The expat also drew attention to a recent upsurge in road fatalities after the main local road became a four-lane highway. He advocated for speed reduction measures such as speed bumps and additional signage to help prevent further tragedies.

 

Zoe Lucket, a long-term resident of Kamala, was a well-loved community figure.

Mai Pen Rai, it's just an old farang, not much we can do about it now, (must have been the thoughts in the

minds of the police station's bosses)

In my opinion, the governor of Phuket need to to sackall the commanding officers of that station and make sure personally that all cameras and other safety equipments are in working order and that someone will make sure that it will stay in working order...

I always just assume that any crosswalk is just another place to line up pedestrians for a game of pedestrian pinball.

 

the Thai's are cowards. not only can most can not drive, but they will not stop a red lights for most pedestrians. they will not stop to render assistance.  hate them.

What a dreadful incident, not just the accident but the police lethargy and the  second report on here which states the victim else driving the van.

Gone too young for the stupid actions of a speeding driver.

 

The Police obviously not interested. No cameras and declining to take footage from local store owners, no check on drink-driving, nothing......... It stinks.

 

Will we have the outrage at the death of an innocent woman or the involvement of the interior minister asking questions about policing in Phuket?

 

We had it for weeks when a woman was kicked in the back by a foreigner, heads rolled all over the place. A trivial incident that made international news and drew the nation's ire, carefully choreographed by the media to whip up anti foreigner hysteria.

 

Or is this another road death not newsworthy enough, as it involves terrible driving on the part of Thais as usual.

If she was driving the passenger van the police would have said they were hunting her down using every means possible and local netizens were watching this space.

Known Zoe for years, what an absolute lovely woman that didnt deserve this, another act of "im above the law, i do what i want" attitude by another brainless psychopath.. rest in peace Zoe..

Strange ... one can only assume that the Van company pays regular bribes to the cops for protection ...?

They did not test for DUI on the Van driver ?

I was knocked off my scooter in the same part of kamala, by another psycho. But the cops said to me, "if i not there, then accident not happen" 

A brutal, but quick way to go..

Serves as yet another reminder of just how careful you have to be in traffic here, both as driver and, especially, as a pedestrian.

Kamala police are quick to go round bars collecting tea money and demanding "hush money" from bar girls to turn a blind eye. And of course the checkpoints either side of kamala where they use a fixed , breathalyser to con money out of people. I know because they did it to me and i hadnt had a drink for over 2 months.. try get them to do some real police work. Not a chance. And not to mention the swiss bar owner they caught selling all kinds of drugs , but he appeared back on the street a day after after his family paid a 1 million baht ,get out of jail card. Rotten to the core

When i had my accident in kamala, i got the blame, fined 50,000 baht to find out 3 months later the same guy and the police have an agreement
