The old pathetic dinosaurs just have no idea the scale of the payback come next election, it’s going to be a much bigger defeat than last time, and then there will be a coup, as the Thai people are weak and have little enthusiasm for mass protests

A never ending cycle of fwits hanging on to the power…shame on them!

Yeah, I was hoping that it would turn out more like the PI and Marcos (the former president).  I was there when some 600K citizens took to the streets.  Marcos and his cronies had to come to the embassy to get transportation to Clark AB and Hawaii.  Hundreds of his close followers also

came to the embassy for transportation out of the immediate area.  Marcos would not let the military stop the crowds so he opted to leave instead of a coup.  But, TIT and I feel the opposite would occur if the public did come out.  I have been here when some of the smaller crowds protested and the military seems to enjoy shutting down those demonstrations.  Hopefully though, all will remain calm with no casualties.

In a statement today, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin offered reassurance to the Thai public by asserting that Thailand’s sovereignty ensures the country manages its own political affairs and democratic processes.

.....what democratic processes? 🤔

Supports this stance ! 😳🤣

Think he might want to have an election to see if that's true . Oh wait they did and the results didn't matter anyway ! 🙈

Wow, the entire U.S. law enforcement and intelligence apparatus is doing everything it can to jail opponents -- they're really bad at it, then.  And this is why the Thais are ignoring the U.S. statement?

Their political system is just like the baht, distorted.

an educated leader which is exactly what Thailand needs - the people voted for MFP, 14m people, a majority - sorry but i would not be accepting this, 14m people were are you

The problem fof Thai people is the memory of those brutally killed in the 1970s/90s when they tried to openly protest against ruling governments. Many of the 14m will have lost family and friends in those days.

I can assure him Thailand is mostly "meaningless" to the USA.

You have to have a brain to understand that, apparently it is not for that gentleman.

Court rulings!  The USA has it's own problems with Supreme Court rulings, specifically the ruling that said, basically, anything the President did from the Oval Office was 'official' business, and was therefore ok.  And Candidate Trump has said that if he's elected again, we won't have to worry about voting any more.  What the heck?????

What do you mean by "what the heck"? You completely took his words out of context to further your little agenda.

Rejecting US criticism of the Move Forward party's dissolution means sharing the Constitutional Court's ruling and therefore not knowing the meaning of the word "DEMOCRACY." A party voted by 14 million voters cannot be dissolved before the contested actions are implemented. The prime minister confirms that Thailand is a dictatorship under the guise of democracy. I feel sorry for the Thai people!

"with the backing of ruski"  what???  it's a bit early to be on the Chang. This guy is a born Nationalist, as it suits his own wealth agenda. Thailand is 50 years behind most developed countries and they LOVE IT that way because it keeps them in power.

they will soon.

our generation (gen x) is about to take power and things will start to change. might not be very fast but once the old guard dies off there won't be nearly as much of that dinosaur attitude around. holding those views will make you akin to a leper.

Of course Thailand is a sovereign country, Dear PM.

But Thailand is no where near a free country.

Foreigners can choose to boycott Thailand and Thai produce, if they are unhappy with Thailand.  And Thailand is free to disregard the constructive comments of its friends.

But, Dear PM, who is going to stop 1.4 billion Chinese from taking over Thailand, if Thailand has no other friends?

It is a dream for most younger Thais - everyone hopes you are right. Down with dinosaurs!

It should read, as a dictatorship we will not allow anyone to develop a sense of democracy and the thai people will have to accept it, and we dont care what the U.S. thinks until we need some money or miltary aid thanks🤣🤣IMG_20240809_023501.jpg.a36be8e14e56cc9f80e3726f85e4360f.jpg

"Meaningless."

Weak and disingenuous.

(I think he knows he's going to get a favorable court ruling on appointing a convicted criminal to the cabinet?)

mostly should be replaced with "completely" meaningless to the USA.  Especially when Thailand seems to be following in the footsteps of the other nations surrounding this country towards the Chinese.  Even today we read in the news media of a Chinese plot apparently to take control the government of Bangladesh - (another no big loss for sure).  One would think that Thailand would look to Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia and decide against BRICS but I guess not.  I once heard about a small meeting between the State Dept rep to a particular SEA country with closer ties to the US in those days, and this rep was visiting and the Ambo expressed his feelings about support from the US in his opinion and the State rep laughed at him saying that in Washington, the only person that ever reads the daily briefs about that particular country was HIM and no one else in the US govt could care less about that country.  He said that ambassadors sometimes think that their career depends on their stationed country's success or progress is determined by the ambo when that is totally false and that the ambo is more or less just a conduit between the two nations.

Ambo wasn't too happy to hear this of course, but life goes on.  Here too, the direction of the country should be up to the citizens of this country and they MUST make sure to let their politicians and military realize this.  How they go about THAT, we as expats can only watch, laugh or move on to a safer more stable area if things were to change too much here.  I have gone through some of the changes, I felt safe as I avoided the trouble areas and the same for my local family members.  Have a good Friday!

He's been traveling the developed world begging for investment. So yes, what the developed world thinks about their politics is incredibly relevant.

So now we know what all the protagonists stand for. They can ban MFP and its leaders but the people know what MFP stands for and hopefully will vote accordingly in the next election with an even larger majority which cannot be ignored or put down.

Wherever you go in the world money talks louder than anything else. As long as the population is living well they will not stand up to the greedy bureaucrats.

Embracing the likes of China, Russia & Myanmar is a fair indication of the calibre of the Thai elite and its politicians!!

Unfair criticism of Thai people.

History shows that mass protesters end up in gaol (without bail) or shot.

Would you really do as you say?

Despite overwhelming support from the Thai people, the Move Forward Party is to be dissolved and the country is to remain a Monarchist Fascist dictatorship rather than a robust modern democracy.

Thailand ratified the International Covenant for Human Rights. The United States is simply pointing out its obligations under that treaty. You can't sign and international treaty and then turn around and say, "Oh, it doesn't really apply, because we're a sovreign nation." Huh?

That's not a fair question since it should really be addressed to citizens of Thailand.

As to Thailand the masses have turned out before to protest the greedy selfish elites that have made Thailand one of the most unequal societies on earth, risking and in some cases losing their lives - but it was long ago.

I really don't know how the progressive elements in Thailand are now prepared to challenge in the courageous manner of their predecessors. To be frank there's not much sign of it.

Yet the same enemies are plain in view, huge and hateful. As Thomas Jefferson said, " The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

There is something very distasteful about foreigners calling on Thais to take dangerous action, so I will avoid that. But the way forward is I think very clear since it's obvious the ruling elites are determined to crush democracy.
