Not a joke. It's a side effect of the local banana scene. Sometimes, bananas not only come green, but they stay that way, even after days. I keep reading that all that is needed is a bag to place them into, however it must be of paper. But who in Pattaya would sell their food stuff in paper bags? Not anyone known to me.

 

Villa send me stuff in real brown paper bags, and I always keep them for this reason.  Maybe they also sell them?

Makro has a bag area. I don't buy green bananas anymore as they don't always turn out well

I haven't been there for a coupl of years but the Makro on Sukhumvit heading from Pattaya to Satahip, on the right, always had an isle full of all sorts of bags. Might be worth a look.

Madam uses newspaper.

 

She sometimes also adds calcium carbide (yes the stuff used in caving lamps), which gives off acetylene just from the dampness in the air which speeds ripening of most fruits if you need to hurry them along.

No part and I only keep the few I get deliveries in.  Lazada sell them, easy.

I have seen many around here put their fruit in paper bags on the trees. Looks like the bags have been supplied for the purpose being made from recycled newspaper. Don't know any suppliers but Lazada and Shopee would be a good start.

Most / all bakery supplies shops sell them. 

Some with handles, some no handles, some very small (1 cupcake), some very large supermarket shopping size.

That was all quite interesting, thank you. Even the dozen green bananas I bought last thursday seem to be under the impression: Today I found that the first one is turning yellow - no, I haven't quite given up on them yet  .)

All you have to do is cover the end where they cut them off the tree. You can use a plastic bag and a rubber band for that. 

If you buy a loaf and get it sliced in Big C, they put it in a paper bag

Just go to any government or police and you’ll find lots of paper bags around. 

I buy green bananas and I just put them in the plastic bag that they come in and after a few days they turn yellow no problem TIT

Putting them in beside other fruits like avocados or apples will also help as they too give off ethylene.

 

Alternatively, putting them in the oven or microwave also ripens them much more quickly.

I would not waste my time eating a banana Shipped from Amazon.

 

BUT...the reason that bananas ripen more quickly when enclose in a bag is ETHYLENE GAS which is produced by the fruit itself

 

Therefore, I see no reason why one cannot just trap this gas using a plastic bag, rather than a paper bag.

 

Or, maybe experiment with other homemade enclosures, like a cardboard box which has been made fairly airtight, and which is small enough to fit the size of the fruit you are trying to ripen faster.

 

Let me know how this works.

I have no desire to ripen bananas, that was the OP and he has already been advised regarding ethylene.

 

My post was not to promote bananas from Amazon but to indicate that your claim they were plantains was somewhat dubious as the picture used was being used on Amazon (and many other places I might add) to show bananas.
