BANGKOK – The Bhumjaithai Party announced its withdrawal from the Thai government coalition, criticising Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for damaging national honour through a phone call with Cambodia's Hun Sen.

On 18th June 2025, Bhumjaithai Party declared its decision to exit the coalition, effective from 19th June, following controversies surrounding a phone conversation between Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Cambodia's Senate President, Hun Sen.

The party claims the discussion negatively impacted Thailand’s sovereignty and territorial interests.

In response, all Bhumjaithai ministers have submitted resignation letters to the Prime Minister, affirming their resignation as of 19th June 2025.

The party has called upon Prime Minister Paetongtarn to take responsibility for the perceived national disgrace affecting Thailand’s honour, dignity, and military.

The Bhumjaithai Party has pledged to support the Thai military and officials in upholding the sovereignty, territory, and interests of Thailand with full dedication.

I thought it was Thaksin who orchestrated the Cambodia crisis, now it seems obvious it was Anutin and the military. Well played hand, Anutin, well played. It appears he wasn't willing to wait for the next scheduled election to become the PM, time to go to war with the Shin's. Let's see what the Red Shirt Mafia has to say about this, it could get ugly!

Anutin wants supreme power, at any cost; he wants to prove that he is more successful than his father.

BTW - great article picture - you can trust us!!!

Chap to his right is still asleep and his missus just behond him is not happy !

With BJT leaving the coalition, we're now stuck with a minority government trying to run things. What could go wrong. FUBAR 🙄

Daddy is best friends with Hun Sen, maybe she spoke but the narrative would have come from Thaksin.

Election, coup, army. Election, coup, army. Rinse and repeat since the 1950s. Welcome to the Land of Simples.

He wasn't happy about the planned side move step from the Interior Ministry and Phea Thai, trying to consolidate power.

Nothing to do with caring about the country.

Anyone mature there?! What can they achieve by just leaving the coalition?! Another political turmoil?! Another coup d'etat?!

On one of the Bangkok Post's Instagram post, one Cambodian lady commented: As soon as one of the Shinawatras leads the government, royalists and military are ready to target them, to belittle their power and ready to take over. Tend to agree...

Three reasons for this, Anutin has his nose out of joint because he was demoted, he wants to be PM and this is Thailand.  No government other than a military government ever lasts.  Watch for the next coup!

I think the late great Jim Morrison said it best and yes I realize the pics are phillipine

The Bangkok post tried its best to downplay the incident in their English version. However, my wife listened to their conversation that was recorded and clearly states that the PM insulted the Thai people and the Thai army.

So i can understand why these ministers have resigned in a show of protest. The social media in Thai is also calling for her dismissal after such a scene on the phone. My guess is her father was behind the call without knowing it would be recorded and sent to the public. She calls the leader her Uncle and she is niece as well as saying she did not willingly allow this incident to escalate at the borders and that the Army insisted in it. She also requests that the call be kept confidential so the people do not see how she acts and that no-one really listens to her as the PM with authority.

You are partialy correct not PTP or thaksin backed party has ruled without the military stepping in.

I agree, but I think it is more Chidchob that has his nose out of joint. For those that do not know, he is the BJT version of Thaksin, money-wise, just quieter.

BJT has, since the last election, run the government or allowed it to run.  The last thing they need is to be relegated to the minor leagues in the cabinet.

As for a coup, I really do not see it.  The past coups were because the people were upset, and the PTP had the power and numbers.

The PTP does not have the numbers.  the opposition now holds 220 seats in just 2 parties.  Add in that the elite military parties were only there to solidify some formof power led by BJT I think the PTP is finished as it can no longer lose any bills.  Call the F1 dead, the casino dead

I see an election coming very soon possibly waiting unti the court case agains Taksin is over,

Just Anutin with his nose out of joint trying to destabilise the current leadership, politics is dirty and often involves the same type of people!!

Don't forget she gave him an ultimatum to leave the positions that they had agreed on to form the coalition.

They have NOT YET called for her to resign and Thaksin be removed from influence. (BUT i think it is coming)

LIttle girl thought she had grown up and tried to do something on her own without daddy trading on the familiarity that daddy has.  OOPS

The next few months are going to be interesting.

I am not sure there is the will for another election, but I could see someone in power asking the 2 big kids on the block PP and BJT if they can make up for the good of the country.

Agree, looks obvious he is buttering up the military to star a coup, would the military ban dope and casinos, casinos number one on Thaksin's list or could he have to bolt again and no share for his family????????

For some reason I have great problems with connecting Bhumjaithai and the concept of honour!

I would also far rather that The Prime Minister was talking to Cambodia's leaders, than the army and it's political bedfellows start a war; people will suffer and die, and going on past performance it will be a war they will lose.
