Anutin Charnvirakul has clinched the position of Thailand's prime minister following a commanding victory in the parliamentary vote on Friday. With robust support from opposition members, Anutin surpassed the necessary threshold, leaving behind the candidate from the Shinawatra family’s erstwhile ruling party.

This victory concludes a tumultuous week marked by political manoeuvres and intense power struggles.

Anutin’s win is a significant setback for the Shinawatra family, renowned for its enduring influence in Thai politics, reported Reuters.

The decisive outcome came after days of intrigue and strategic alignments, showcasing Anutin’s adept political acumen. His rise to premiership highlights a shift in the country's political landscape, potentially reshaping future alliances.

The election resolves recent political unrest and power vacuums, offering a new direction for Thailand's governance.

The focus now shifts to how Anutin will address the country's challenges and unite a diverse political spectrum. His leadership marks a pivotal chapter in Thailand's history, setting the stage for what could be a transformative period in the nation’s political journey.

Anutin pro farang or anti farang ? Do you think tighther rules on visa ? Crackdown on DTV ?

I think this peaceful transition of power will be good for Thailand. Anutin appointment will avoid a power vacuum and allow the parliament to function and hopefully passed the budget which will start on 1st October and others stimulus packages before the election to boost the economy. He now has the majority in Parliamen and should help him get through most bills. The days of street protests and coups could perhaps be over.

I guess you have not been following the news. He will be pm for around 4 months until new elections are held. Most of the work in Parliament will be organizing for that as well as working on the new constitution.

If PTP remained in power they were finished at the next election. This has been brought forward to today. As of today PTP are finished.

I hope he stay true to his words.

For four months he is going to be too busy to think about foreigners. If he sticks to his promise to call an election, he will be looking for some propaganda punches to win more seats. However, the People's Party may receive more seats in the next election, which he has to stop. I will be looking out for criminal charges against the PP leadership and a dissolution of the party immediately before the election.

The OP reads more as a quick press release. Just another period of time in a ongoing disaster.🙃🙃

Make sense. Gonna be busy finding solutions to stay in power until the general election in 2027.

Street protests finished in Thailand years ago. Coups are now conducted by the judiciary.🙃🙃

He’s not my favourite Martian, but probably best Thailand could hope for under the circumstances. Keep weed and abolish the silly tax thing for starters. Those were Takk’s babies.

Nevertheless high on his agenda is a law forcing all foreigners to wear face masks in public places, he wants to protect the Thai folks from disease.

Just wrapped up a long day of work and what do I see?

Anutin just became the 32nd PM of Thailand! 🎉

I’m celebrating the only way that feels right, sparking up a nice joint. What a beautiful day for us fans of this harmless little plant.

Congrats, Anutin! I can already hear the grumpy crowd warming up 😂

He will do the cubed root of <deleted> all - far too busy sifting through the trough, and making sure he remains on top of the midden of his making!
