Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is experiencing health issues, including high blood pressure, sleep disturbances, and hair loss, as reported by his daughter Paetongtarn after a family visit Thursday morning to Klong Prem Central Prison. The visit, which included Paetongtarn, her sister Pintongta, and their husbands, was their second to the prison but was cut short due to Thaksin's condition.

Previously, Thaksin met with his family for a brief 15-minute conversation. Paetongtarn expressed concern over her father's health, noting his fatigue and difficulty sleeping, though she mentioned he was still in good spirits and managed a smile. The family observed that Thaksin's hair loss might be related to stress, and Paetongtarn was uncertain about his eating habits in prison.

Upon the family's arrival at the prison, red-shirt supporters offered amulets and a portrait of a monk as gifts, intended to bring blessings to the Shinawatra family. However, these items were not brought inside the prison due to lack of prior permission. The family dressed formally for the visit, with Pintongta bearing a letter for Thaksin from his seven grandchildren, as a gesture of their affection.

Thaksin's routine in prison involves waking at 6 am and retiring at 9:30 pm. His activities include reading, watching TV, and light exercise. Medical care is ongoing, with a psychologist scheduled to meet Thaksin during routine checkups for new inmates. His family has deposited funds for his expenses, with a limit of 500 baht per day, primarily used for food and snacks.

Losing hair?

Must release him immediately!

  • Popular Post

maybe it's time he get lost for good!

in the end he is responsible to many killings, so what's wrong to wish him the bad news eh? 🤣

Total BS, pure and simple

I thought his head got shaved as part of normal prison routine.

I'm sure this is start of a carefully choreographed sympathy campaign. If I'm not mistaken he will be due for early release around the time of the next election, should BhumjaiThai stick to the agreement with the People's Party.

There didn't actually seem to be much of a nationwide outcry over his daughter's removal or his jailing. Last roll of the dice in the popularity stakes.

My heart bleeds for him starting to have hair loss. Mine started when I was less than 60 yo. When younger the hairdressers had to thin it because it was so thick. Poor man, but I suppose he is the same as many Thai men his age that dye their to keep it black, so he is still a "handsome man".

It is difficult to feel sympathy for him, although at his age the quiet life should be good for him..

Is he sharing a cell with 20 men on the floor or is he in solitary with a bed and mattress? Does he eat vegetables? Is he clearing the sewers with other inmates? @kinyara is right, his head should have been shaved on entry so its color seems irrelevant.

In a cell with 20 others, doubt that very much.

As for his health declining - that probably applies to a large number of others in there with him, are they going to be given any special treatment?

Even if any of this charade was true, he is in a prison, for crimes, and prison isn't supposed to be a holiday camp.

I can guarantee 99% that there is no other inmate in that place more comfortable than uncle toxic Tony.

Incredible - no reported health concerns while out of prison, yet enter the penal system and his health suddenly takes a turn - he must have an allergy to prison....  Best set him to 'home detention' immediately - can't have someone of such high profile falling unwell while incarcerated.... :whistling:

Oxygen cylinder, neckbrace and wheelchair then it's off home for a short stint of home detention.

I suspect nearly EVERYONE reading this topic suffers in the same way.

Never trust a Thai politician over 60 if his hair is still black!

Don't forget the stretcher that was used to transport him to hospital in his first outing.

Loss of hair is usually associated with several metabolic conditions. Add in the hypertension and I will not be surprised if the man has kidney disease.

That's not a reasonable assessment. The man has known chronic health issues including hypertension and cardiovascular issues. The corrections officials are aware of it and have a detailed file.  Why would you have expected that he release his private health records so that you could read them? Do you circulate your private health information to the general public?  Ever hear of the concept of privacy?  When other  offenders are transferred, including dangerous offenders, their health records are not shared  in detail with the public, yet you expect that it be done with an elderly, non violent detainee.

Sleep disturbance? Stroll on. It’s not meant to be a holiday!

Do your time with dignity, you so n so!

So looks like they are going with the tried and true angle of getting released on medical grounds again.  If it worked once it will probably work again.  TiT.

Sounds life-threatening!  By the way has she retrained to a doctor lately?

He will now see how prisoners have to live and the conditions, Amazing how the amount of drugs that are available, maybe when you get out do something useful next time,

During the Redshirt street occupation in Ratchadamri his nibs occasionally addressed the crowd from wherever he was via jumbotron (or whatever it's called).   One day the screen lit up and there he was, completely bald.  Oops!  He put the rug on and explained it away as "just a little chemo."

This was covered in the press at the time,  Haven't heard it mentioned since.

Actions have consequences.  Once one makes several millions of dollars then dives into politics, large unusual financial dealings, etc.  things get complicated.  I guess it is hard to just quit the race and be comfortable once one has "made it"

But he's "special"

Normal things as you get older.. nothing to do with health declining.. besides it shows, if his health is going back so quickly in jail, how miserable it must be for normal inmates.. Time to make things better there

The questions that you have raised are ones that I have been pondering myself

The hair loss is due to old age and way too much hair dye.

It won't kill you, so just crawl back in your cage for a year

Here we go, the slow drip feed health decline to get him moved somewhere comfortable, like his favourite armchair at home, I guess the two-boiled egg breakfast has started to get boring.
