The RTP at it's inception seems to have been created with a status quo from the government. We will NOT pay you a living wage, but you have a franchise, and the limit of your income is based solely on

"Our duty is to protect the public. We will not stop."  That RTP motto should be,"Our duty is to rip off the  public. We will not stop till all farangs pay a bribe."

Thailand's police chief, General Kittirat Panphet, defended the Royal Thai Police (RTP) against accusations of being a "large-scale criminal organisation” on November 6.

And who investigates the RTP ?? Even after reporting Koh Chang immigration about their made up 'fees' they all still have their jobs and are still raking in thousands every day ! unless an independent organization investigates then it will just carry on, but we know that will never happen. TIT

All crows under the sun are black in colour...

Of course he defends the RTP ..he's part of the problem...they should investigate his wealth.

But, wasn't he one on the bad side....?   🤫

He was on the slightly better side and tries to make a difference and then…. His car got shot up in sulawong and he was advised to go to Australia for “ his own safety” - very similar playbook to UK police and government

They just need to change their name to the "Royal Thai Mafia", then it will be truth in advertising.

The RTP living in big houses and driving in big cars as their family members, but low paid as they claimed.. So where is the money come from??? And you never see them working. Checking if you paid your car tax at checkpoints is all they do.. and if you have a blacksmoke car.. get a ticket with or without a ticket and drive on.. If you are a drugsdealer.. pay a sum and get away again without charges, if there is a burglary.. pay them to find the thief, same for an accident.. if you don't pay they don't properly investigate....but they don't do anything wrong??? Only a few bad and the rest good???

Extortion on the roads. Extortion in the jails to get out without jail or charges.

When the majority of the police force is out collecting money from people and businesses and not protecting people with the laws and court systems.

When the police make check points and offer you to pay them there without receipt so you are not ticketed.

When even the head police station allows people to use fake medical problems to avoid their prison sentence.

When even the top brass claims to be going after criminals but they themselves are criminals as well with scam centers or other illegal ventures.

When officers need to pay their superiors to get advanced..

These are the reasons people think and say the RTP is a large scale criminal organization.

No reason I mentioned were said without reading news that these things actually happen within the RTP throughout the year.

If the criminal behavior started at top positions then surely it has worked its way through to the rookie cop.

The problem lies in that because it has been happening for so long, it is considered normal behavior now rather than criminal.

yes people  would prefer 100 bhat gift than a 500 bhat fine and court appearance

You're mistaken, he made some accusations in the press a few days ago.

No s**t Sherlock. When you have people in plod like Joe Ferrari, Johnny “ the enforcer” and Torsak Sukvimol get nicked for their corrupt activities it’s quite obvious that others were complicit in enabling them to operate. The attitude to be on the take filters all the way down to the local plod who ask for cash at road blocks.

Good luck trying to change it’s reputation when everybody knows the reality.

I can only speak for myself of course but I have found the police in my area in Isan on many occasions to be correct, polite and helpful. A few days ago my wife and I returned home after delivering her mother to a hospital for an eye operation, I had forgotten my driving license and had no documents with me. At a road block an officer asked for my license, I told him it was at home. He laughed and asked my wife in a jocular fashion, "Is he telling the truth", my wife confirmed that I had a license, "I know" he said, "you've been through this road block before and I've often seen you on this road", he then asked where we were going, when my wife told him about her mother he asked how she was and a general chat started about his own mother's OP, he then said we can go, no attempt at 'tea money', it would have been a good opportunity.

Sad day when big joke was ousted from rtp, he had a good guy in bad guys out policy which for some reason offended many foreigners, I liked that his policy also applied to immigration officers, they were all on their best behaviour when he was in charge. You knew exactly what was needed and each immigration office was plasterered in signs detailing how long each specific visa was to take, the bit I liked was the complaint shotline they used to have,,, funny as soon as he left the immigration division all those signs were quickly binned and we went back to looking for issues which can't be fixed unless you use an agent, which they just happen to have on speed dial

I know many didn’t like him. He was straight speaking and tried his best, which got him nowhere with his higher chiefs.   They stopped him where and whenever they could. One down, but there are hundreds more. He did more for immigration than any others, which is why Falang didn’t like him.
His private fortune was his own, private, and this was never accepted by foreigners and Thai police alike. One good guy lost. So things have changed now that he’s not here ? No way.

This guy saying that the police are not corrupt is a bit like Trump saying I'm not corrupt, okay maybe my family has made a few billion dollars off of the presidency so far, in jsit 8 short months, but I'm not corrupt.

It's like a wolf crying into the wind. It means nothing.

I believe that the principal reason Thailand is riddled with corruption begins with the police force.  I think the ordinary Thai first meets corruption at the village cop level who decides who is worth prosecuting or is taking kickbacks from local industry/businesses.  This low level dereliction of duty is seen as the norm and becomes part of Thai heritage.

Realistic, that could be said for every police force.

New Zealand has the most honest Police Force in the world.

That is a fact.

Any police officer found to be corrupt is sorted out quick time.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Based on recent reports and global indices, police forces in countries with low public sector corruption are consistently ranked as the most honest and trustworthy. Nations such as Denmark, Finland, and Singapore are widely cited as having highly professional and incorruptible police forces. Google is your friend.

I think the system is working fine, ( well, as fine as it can be) and don't forget that this is Thailand and in Thailand

things done in the Thai way, and any attempt to disrupt this delicate balance will only lead to chaos.

Maybe an independent inquiry calling for submittions from the public & scrutiny over assets owned by some police that cannot be explained...in any situation an official receipt should be given for all money paid by the public..

He has good intentions but has a mammoth task to reverse the decades of corruption within the force. Lets hope he can make an impression but his biggest obstacle is the nature of the beast where money is above ethics & morals and that doesn't go away overnight. It needs to start with education in schools and an example set to follow by those in leadership & authoritive roles!

I would say for the majority no, but as has been shown many times, there are some bad apples.
