Daily News published a report that Hua Hin Hospital has come up with their own Covid-19 testing lab and that it was quick and cheap and available to all.

The hospital's Facebook page advertised the test that can be accessed from the 7th of April at a cost of between 3,500 and 5,000 baht.

The price range was not explained but the hospital said that insurance could be used to cover the cost. It was available from 8 am to 8 pm and people could call the hospital to make an appointment. Results would be available within three hours.

Director Dr Niran Jantrakoon said that those running temperatures of 37.5 and in high risk categories would not have to pay.

The lab would be helpful for those who wanted to know their status even without symptoms.

He said that being proactive in testing and finding out if people were infected before they developed symptoms was vital in helping to contain the disease and indicated that more foreigners from risky countries were being tested by using chest x-rays.

But staying home and isolating was important, said the director.

you know what guys, what I am reading from that article is they intend to force all foreigners to get tested and charge for the pleasure - then put a few in hospitals who have false positives from their dodgy test and make loads of dosh

That is what I read in that article

hahaha i dismissed this at first but you could be right mate - think about it.. all those tourists needing an extension, the details currently being thrashed out, wouldn't it be a sweet little money earner if one of those details was a covid 19 certificate! the public (thai) would lap it up too

Ivermectin Kills worms in Animals, and lice on your head, so it can not be to bad.  Will get those worms you ingest in the village when eating the fish from the klongs and the snails....might make some overweight people skinny once those parasitic worms leave your tush....

nice one - good find!

Proven to kill in a lab test tube but not in people as yet.

Needs to go through human testing so looking at 1-2 years.

I hear testing is 8,000 to 18,000 baht elsewhere in Thailand. Likely the 5,000 baht price is for foreigners.

Rhetorical question I assume?

World Medical Center ,, the one just before Central in Chaengwattana are advertising 6500thb for the test.

Have they really developed their own tests, or have they just sneaked a bunch of Chinese quick-tests into the country?  Y'know, the ones determined to only work 30% of the time and which China can't even give away anymore.

Many, many things will kill the virus.  The trick is to find one that doesn't kill the patient as well.

Good point, this drug was fully approved some 30 years ago for human beings, taken by many people in many countries and very few and limited side effects recorded.

And yes it's also an approved veterinary medicine.

Why does it cost between 3,500 and 5,000 baht?   There is one test only so either it cost 3500 or it cost 5000

I remember there were Thai doctors giving HIV drugs which they said was effective. Some HIV coctails contain Ivermectin also. This was forwarded to WHO, but nothing is heard of it being tested further. This is not new news, they also gave SARS patients this cocktail back then, and they said they had some success. Not sure how true it is, but wouldn't be surprise if it works. Shouldn't be bad if administer in correct dosage.

The professor who was interviewed on TV news here in Australia mention your points.  She also mentioned that many drugs had some success with SARS and the speed/extend of new infections reduced fairly quickly and the drugs being tested were never explored properly.

Yesterday on the ABC news here in Sydney a journalist asked the national chief medical offer to comment on the news about re Ivermectin. He quickly commented that he had seen the interview and he had followed up quickly to offer whatever support might be helpful to the researchers in Melbourne and he hopeful that approval would come quickly to start live testing.

On another news channel another research professor also spoke positively re Ivermectin and also mentioned that so far it's seen as a possible treatment but a vaccine is still needed urgently.

It is always amusing when Thais tell us something is really cheap. I remember how many people used to tell me how cheap Thailand was. I would always correct them. Thailand is still reasonable, but it stopped being cheap years ago. Now, few talk about how cheap it is with steadily rising prices. I would not refer to the cost of this test as cheap. And I seriously doubt that Dr. Niran would either, with a straight face, if he were paying for this out of his pocket.

Always interesting to read Cheap = 2 weeks wages for a Thai.

For the SARS drug, I read that the virus went away quickly before pharmaceutical companies saw a need to develop the a drug for it as it was not profitable. It seems like it would be good for organizations like WHO or government to support the development of these drugs.
