The government is seeking everyone’s helping hands to solve the wildfire problem in the North.

BANGKOK – The government spokesperson expressed gratitude towards the Chiang Mai Breath Council for its concern on smog in the North and assured that the government was seriously solving the pollution.

Responding to the council’s demand for successful solution to the long-standing air pollution in the region, government spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat said the council made great contribution by monitoring progress in the air pollution solution for the sake of public health.

The government had tried to solve the problem and closely assigned local authorities to implement relevant measures. It was never distracted from the attempts despite the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, she said.

uh huh, wont hold my breath

We only have a few precious months of relatively clean air (as long as you're not near a main road). Can we stop talking about Chiang Mai's horrific air for just a few months and restart the conversation in October, when the air goes bad again?

I made a post earlier relating to coming back from Lamphun area today along the 106 there were probably a dozen fires to be seen in the fields.

Half a dozen of the fires were quite big and within a couple of hundred metres of a police roadblock with about a dozen or so police checking temperatures of persons in vehicles.

The government will continue to talk the talk and do nowt!

It is 2330 hours in Oz and I was going to bed, but I just had to have a cold beer to stop my laughing fit ! Is there really some entity called "The Chiang Mai Breath Council ?" Someone just has to be kidding ! I lived in CM from 1992 - 2013. The air was bad when I moved there and it only got worse, despite yearly promises from various government idiots, until living there became totally horrific for about nine months a year for any normal human, in about 2004. I kept on kidding myself right up until 2012, when I joined the sorry ranks of those diagnosed with laryngeal cancer as a non-smoker, in the city with the highest incidence of lung-cancer or oral cancer in non-smokers of any place on the planet. I got my Thai wife and then baby daughter out of there ASAP. We live in Oz, in the bush and the air is beautiful. Radiation treatment cured my cancer. The area we live in now is noted for the quality of its' major illicit yearly crop of 'alternative tobacco', but I'd like to try (in tablet form of course) a little of whatever that government lady has obviously been smoking - "council has made great contribution by monitoring the air pollution solution." Classic !

Let the people know my wisedom, fill the land with smoke. Run thru the jungle by CCR

Absolute total  BS,  they started this rubbish round  here, head of  village asked us not  to burn anything so we ploughed back in our crops, all other neighbours ignored it and still burn, sugar .pineapples, anything in fact. You can easily see whose burning, many do it at night  as advised also by the  headman!

I expect they'll create a form that the smog has to complete before it is allowed to enter CM.

They really know how to talk nonsense thinking they are pull ing wool over our eyes and think they are so clever. It’s only bs. Wish the world would take notice of their atrocious stupidity in regards to this calamity.

How many arsonists were arrested ?

This would be the same government promising that your privacy rights will not be affected by the latest data harvesting apps !!

Well there is still smog in the north... ????

Might be easier if they picked up CM, and moved it...

That should be the new national slogan "Thailand-Land of Promise" ! Sounds much more appropriate that "The Land you can Trust" ????

Chiang mai Breath council is on its last gasp!

How can they promise this when it has been blamed on neighbouring countries

Here’s an imagining about the smog.

Create along the neighbours across the borders a combined national parks division.

Get some old jets, covert to water bombers.

Build a network of fire watch towers across the northwest (similar to those used in the US), man them with national parks officers.

Report any fires immediately they are noticed. If a permit is not recorded as given waterbomb the fires there and then.

Ban seasonal burning outright and support farmers field clearing with a collective of excavators and hand tilling machinery to manage fields, also managed, maintained, and operated by national parks employees.

Measuring a problem is not the same as fixing it.

Give the army something to do. Start shooting arsonists caught in the act, they are killing their fellow Thais. Would not take long for the word to get around.

I remember that the last year their leader tried to resolve the problem in 7 days... ????

Stand by for the government to claim overwhelming success in elimination of pollution in the north during these next few rainy months.
