Watermelon carrying pick-up overturns and driver flees scene - the reason soon becomes obvious

Police were called to a bend in the road in Sakon Nakhon in the north east of Thailand after a pick-up carrying a load of watermelon overturned at 5 am.

Locals came to lend their assistance first, but discovered that the driver was nowhere to be found.

The reason for this soon became obvious - hidden in the back of the pic-up among the fruit was 400 kilos of compressed marijuana.

Akat Amnuay police are investigating but said that it appeared that the driver had taken advantage of the easing of the curfew to make a delivery of drugs from the border hidden among the watermelons.

The evidence was taken into the police station.

If you were carrying an illegal load in your vehicle then surely you would at least try to drive sensibly so as not draw attention to yourself.

They slow down for nothing, in fact speed up round corners even more in the rain

and the driver flee's ......  i'm not sure how he thinks the police can't locate the vehicle's owner.

True but then they have to prove he was the one driving. Maybe he thinks he can make up some story that is believable about lending his car to someone.

Was sampling the melons. Lost track of time and space.

I was expecting to read the driver was overloaded with big melons.

It'll take the police a long time to dispose of all those melons.

Maybe not, just hit the right attractive price and all sold quickly.

Brake mate, it is always the brakes that let them down.

Well, if he was purely a courier someone is not gonna be very happy. Like getting snitched up or caught by chance is one thing, but losing 400 kg of compressed marijuana through sheer stupidity is another.

Perhaps he was nervous. What does 400 kg of weed get you in Thailand? Surely it's a very long holiday.

Full stop.   Very Bermuda triangle-ish from that point
