The Student Union of Thailand and the "Yaowashon Plod Ak -- Free Youth" group are jointly holding a street protest at Democracy Monument on Saturday evening to express their opposition to what they call Thailand's "deep-rooted dictatorial system".

The Student Union of Thailand and the "Yaowashon Plod Ak -- Free Youth" group are jointly holding a street protest at Democracy Monument on Saturday evening to express their opposition to what they call Thailand's "deep-rooted dictatorial system".

The Free Youth group earlier posted on its Facebook homepage demanding that the Prayut Chan-o-cha government dissolve Parliament, as it has failed in its economic management, especially amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The government's imposition of the state of emergency and the nationwide lockdown had led to rising unemployment and lack of income.

It also asked for the drafting of a new charter, citing that the current Constitution is designed to enshrine the dictatorial system under the cloak of democracy. It also asked the government to stop intimidating the people. It said that after the general election last March, people had hoped that Thailand would have more democracy and freedom to express views and hold gatherings. They said that people still faced both physical and psychological intimidation. The page also called on Parliament to scrap the law deemed as violating freedom of expression and gathering under the Constitution.

Police deputy spokesman Pol Colonel Kritsana Pattanacharoen said that National Police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijnda has assigned high-ranking police officers, including deputy National Police chief Suwat Jaengyodsook, to take care of the situation.

Kritsana said that political expression could be done but it must be under the law and must not violate the rights of others. He also advised those planning to gather to follow related rules, including precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

Reminds me of the animals that wait till a car is almost on them and then run across the road.

Do they not learn Thai history at school?

Should stick to protesting about climate change.

maybe he could elaborate, seems to me that under this administration peoples rights in Thailand have greatly diminished, the deck is stacked in every direction, Hong Kong democracy activists think they have problems

Yes the youth may be quite vocal here & rightfully so but,

The media & probably the PTB are trying to pretend it is just the youth by showing just pics of their groups.

That is not the case...Young & Old alike are fed up with this mob calling themselves a government

You have to applaud their idealism, respect their patriotism, and admire their courage....but the odds are still stacked steeply against them.

Unfortunately…the greedy, opportunistic gang of thugs that has stolen their country will only leave when they are forced out at gunpoint by new gang of greedy, opportunistic thugs.

And the cycle of uniformed banditry will continue….

This story came out yesterday during the day. It took a while for news to cover it and this forum avoided it as well. I'm glad that it finally is allowed here on this forum. We need to live with the whole truth. Mainstream media out of fear or censoring usually doesn't show much on these events.

Excuse me just one moment, show me a country with 70 million in population that has escaped the this Covid economy downturn, much stronger and richer countries that Thailand are suffering and suffering bad, so what do they want? that Thailand will be doing business as usual and no one and nothing will be affected? you want to change the leadership, do int in the ballot, just as well that theses protests are not in China, HK, No.Korea or Iran and other despots regimes, there would have been blood in the streets by now...

The ballots and votes are stacked against any change.  Those that they believe could make changes affecting the government in power are silenced or removed from competing. Parties are dissolved and the legs cut out from underneath them do they will not pose a problem.

It was reported that it was more than several thousand So the headline of 100s could be an inaccurate figure no doubt the government will announce further lockdowns if these demonstrations get out of hand by using Covid 19 as an excuse.

This will be my fourth coup since I came here.

Suchinda, Sonthi and Prayuth. Wonder who will be next?

No soup for you 1 Year.......Politics is like going in to a guest friendly establishment and trying to order from the secret menu, you never know if they understood exactly was meant.  As the American Indians would say "White man speak with forked tongue", the same is true for all politicians world wide.  Greed and corruption, need I say more

I didn't realise the young people were so aware of the situation as it exists.   I know older people aren't happy but feel powerless to do anything.  Maybe if the young get mad enough we may see schit getting blown up and politicians meeting up with their forebears. ????
