People’s dishonesty over whereabouts is complicating COVID-19 response: CCSA

People’s failure to truthfully tell the authorities of locations they have visited after testing positive is complicating the authorities response to COVID-19, the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Saturday.

Increasingly, people are being dishonest with regards to informing health officials of their ‘timeline’, which is needed so the authorities can begin contact tracing in order to try and prevent further spread of the virus.

Many of the infections come from the workplace, family units, dining, socialising or other activities which are considered ‘high risk’.

Some of the new infections come from patients who “have not been honest or forthright in disclosing their timeline of activities or movements to facilitate thorough contact tracing”, a CCSA spokesperson said during Saturday’s briefing.

The news comes as Thailand on Saturday reported new record high cases (2,839) and deaths (8 ) in a single day.

By Saturday afternoon more than 40 provinces had made wearing a mask mandatory, while officials in Nonthaburi province officials were requesting people to remain at home between 9pm and 4am and avoid eating or socializing in groups.

On Saturday evening, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha signed an order empowering provincial governors to further impose restrictions as they deem necessary.

Nobody wants to be confined to a detention camp, especially if they are taking a chance with false positive readings.

  • In a country where nobody trusts politicians and officials, and for very good reasons, I wouldn't expect anything else!

  • do you seriously blame them   with the threat of family friends or businesses being shut down and all those involved under threat of being detained in detention centers    what do

All the QR Codes Chana apps and contact tracing in the world is more and more useless. They gambled with limited vaccines and lost. The cat is out of the bag. Either lockdown or accept the rising toll.

It is impossible to trace where you got infected by Covid. Indeed you can have some privacy too and tell the Government where when with who you went is a bit absurd. However can anyone remeber where you went exactly ???

It is probably true that some people lie about their timelines, following the example of the government minister who did same.  But there is no point playing the blame game. Their contact tracing was hugely ineffective in the first wave last year and doesn't seem to have improved.  I know of one person who was left at home to treat COVID by herself as the hospital never sent an ambulance to pick her up.  The contact tracers never bothered to contact her close family living with her to ask then to come for tests and they continued going out to shopping malls etc.

Thais are increasingly ignoring these idiots who blame all and sundry for their own incompetence.  They realise the government can do nothing for them.  So why bother to listen?

Seems to me that their are dipsticks aplenty out there who think it's a game, I can give you a stupid name, I can give you a false or stupid telephone number & then brag about it on a forum, nice one muppets, I hope all you have to worry about is a dripping dick with pain when you use the bog, the alternative if a rather painful unnecessary death, upto you big man ????????????

I give real info and hope I never get a call.. I don't want to go to the camp!

However.. there were some cute girls in photos of those containment places...2 weeks with a captive audience... I could score big.

What happened to all the Thai Magic Covid Response?!

An off topic post including a disallowed link to the Bangkok Post has been removed. The Post does not allow their articles to be linked here, and thus doing so is against forum rules.

How did you manage to memorise such a number?

No punter is going to reveal he's visited a prostitute and no prostitute is going to reveal she is one. And then there are the mia nois and giks. This is how covid-19 actually spreads - close personal contact. The whole business of naming and shaming people and publishing their timelines doesn't help. What's needed is guarantees of people's privacy.

Shock horror where could this dishonesty possibly come from????

I don't know.  I was sitting at home watching Prayut on the TV, cheering and waving a flag.

So what you’re saying is in a society that makes “saving face” more important than .... well ..... life itself, .... And you think people are not telling the truth .

-muppet!

if it's Thai, it lies.  nothing new found in this article.

You mean like certain politicians lying about having been at some hi-so sex club and instead claiming they caught the virus from one or another of their low-salaried aides who allegedly are frequent customers at these outrageously expensive venues?

My old home phone used it for 30 some years

All these problems wouldn't have occur if they had lockdown Bangkok when the current wave started a week before Songkran !

Contact tracing is useless if there are so many cases happening at same time.

Not only complicating Covid 19 response but also because of their sheer stupidity they are infecting medical staff and thus reducing the number of medical staff available to treat those infected.  Imbeciles.

I guess this doesn't bode well for self-quarantining once the hospitals become full.

Whilst unhelpful, I believe this is something of a moot point in Bangkok at this stage. With over 2,500 cases in the last 2 days, this is surely too much to manage effectively via track & trace. There aren’t even enough resources available to man the COVID hotlines....

Time to transition to the lockdown plan. They have already started to do in Bangkok with the BMA announcement of multiple business closures for 2 weeks.

Seems to be a common attitude, but then again if the masters can get away with it...
