Only if you're dumb enough not to do due diligence and buy a policy not fit for purpose.

Do you think insurance companies like paying out ? bad enough in the western world

Obviously they don't, some of the worst leaches out there. But that doesn't negate the fact there are insurance policies out there that cover in the event of being dragged off to hospital even if asymptomatic. If people don't do their due diligence it's as much their fault as the leaches.

In the late 90's I worked in sales for a tech company. I was being pushed to write up quotes for network consulting services. I was to claim we had a team of certified techs doing this and that. In reality there were none. I was told these clients had money to blow on this sort of thing, and it was just there for us to take. I couldn't in good conscience do it. I later found it was a last gasp attempt at holding on, as our bread and butter hardware sales was evaporating, and they needed some BS to sell in its absence. My, my. The parallels here.

There's still time for further "improvements" ????

yeah, i'm thinking some minimum income requirements or a confirmed job at a billion dollar corporation could still be tacked on to filter out the riff raff.. ????

Company must be registered on recognized stock exchange, and each applicant must have at least 3 certifications and a PhD in a recognized science, PhD waived for under 12s that submit a worn testimonial at local embassy from that they plan to achieve certification with 6 years, and witnessed by a licensed buddha monk within 72hrs of departure...

Sadly I feel like this needs to said - Please if someone from TAT etc is reading this isn't a serious suggestion

Thanks for this information ????

My wife is desperate to get back to Thailand to see her elderly grandfather so I've been looking at doing the sandbox idea.

I'd much rather not do any of this messing around but it would be much better than 14 nights stuck in a hotel in Bangkok with the wife and two kids.

There are flights to Phuket with Qatar from Manchester but with one stop in Doha, does anyone know if the flights have to be directly to Phuket with no stopovers? (Stopover as in 2 hours in the airport in Doha).

Thanks everyone ????

It has to be a direct international flight into Phuket.

Where it comes from or that there is a stopover doesn't matter as long the originating country is on the applicable list.

visa-exemption not allowed is ingenious.

Think visa exempt is OK. It's visa on arrival that they're not doing.

I was looking quite seriously at returning through Phuket in August .... but the more I read, the more I realized that I have waited this long to see my wife, I can wait a few more months.  I don't want to jump through the hoops.  ????

I also don't want to go from complete freedom-of-movement to do almost anything here in the USA, to the restrictions of Thailand.

I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere...the government PR Department has said Sandbox arrivals have to spend the first three days of their 14 day stay at their hotel (not room but hotel/resort). After that, up to day 8, they can only go out to approved routes (escorted?) and venues. From day 8-14, they're free to travel about Phuket on their own.

That would make a nice 12-14,000 baht earning per person.

This sandbox seems ever more like just an excuse and not really genuine attempt to restart tourism. Maybe to say that borders can all open and nobody would come anyway to get support to ditch the quarantine?

With 80% closed ,it sounds more like the quarantine hotel scam for 15 days . Tourist are in for a expensive disappointment

Wrong.   Tourists arriving in Phuket are to remain within their hotel only until they receive the results of their arrival test (typically the next day at most), then are completely free to move independently anywhere within the province.    The other restrictions you're referring to are applicable to Koh, Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao.   The proposal is that those places will open their own 'Sandbox' on the 15th July.

As I've stated before, my concern isn't so much the cost. My bigger concern is the consequences of getting a false positive on one of the tests, even if not actually infected. I don't want to spend 14 days in a Thai hospital if not necessary. If one believes that the rate of false positives for PCR tests is 0.5%, then having to get four of them means there now is a 2% chance of getting a false positive. If they were to get 10,000 travelers to the sandbox, 200 of them statistically would be predicted to get a false positive result for at least one of those tests. That could result in a lot of extra hospital admissions for the local hospitals. Can they handle that if they really are successful at getting people to sign up and actually come play in the sandbox?

Not only that.

I would be more afraid of staying in a hotel where another guest is detected positiv. If you have been in "close" contact with that guest you probably get admitted to an ASQ Hotel for 14 days quarantine. At your costs ! As far as I know do health insurance not cover ASQ Hotels. Guess lot of people don't know that.

That's why the first PCR Test made at your origin is worth nothing and you have to do a test at Phuket airport.

And today it was just announced that you must take and pre-pay the covid test offered by your hotel. Not to mention that for the covid test on arrival at the airport you also have no choice and for all of this there hasn't been a price announced yet.

My information is that it is a fixed price of 8000 Baht for the 3 test which have to be prepaid to the hotel during your booking.

Not much good with probability are you? You have a .05% chance every test it doesn't accumulate over tests. How does your maths apply to the coin toss if I throw 2 tails I have 100% chance of throwing a head next ????????????????????

Seems to be the common information shared on social media, too.
