Many of the new COVID-19 infections recently found in 32 provinces are linked to arrivals from Bangkok and nearby provinces, said the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) today (Thursday), as the country recorded yet another new daily death toll high of 57.

Many of the people spreading the coronavirus across the country are believed to be construction workers who fled their dormitories in Bangkok and nearby provinces a couple of days before Monday’s enforcement of a partial lockdown.

Senior government officials, however, insist that the number of “escapees” is small, because the government has promised Thai workers, who stay behind, half of their usual wages while the construction sites are closed.

On the bright side locally there are Covid checkpoints set up again entering Chiang Mai on HW11 and for the first time also in Lamphun on HW11 once over the provincial border.
I know that anyone who shows up in our village from Bangkok is forced into quarantine or asked to leave.  As it should be.  Not sure how effective the checkpoints will be but they are there.

Since the third wave began back in early April ,the Northeast  got less 20-30 cases per day! Now its over 200 the last couple of days !

Opening schools a few weeks ago and Bangkokians coming home to roost ,yikes !

Poor management of Covid situation ....

Firstly they didn't stop the Songkran exodus which started the third wave.

Secondly they didn't lockdown Bangkok early enough allowing the spread of the virus to more provinces even after high daily cases were reported in Bangkok

Thirdly, they are prematurely opening Phuket and other islands when the population are still not vaccinated

And, fourthly, they appear to be planning a repeat of The Great Songkran Fiasco at the end of this month:-

Thailand thought they were untouchable

Predicated on complete booze bans, mandatory subscription to rip-off 100k USD insurance policies, etc, etc, of course.

That one has been cancelled now, but it's a bit late now isn't it.

And only one day has been cancelled - Monday 25th and Wednesday 28th are still Public Holidays.

Yes I know, but they've the cancelled the special Tuesday one which joined up the official holidays into one 5 day break. I guess they're hoping it will be a disincentive to folks travelling.

Why not just get fully draconian and ban travel period?

I guess it could still happen.

I am surprised daily by the very high percentage of deaths compared to the number of infections!  i can only conclude that there are many more people who are infected, but either have not been declared or are suddenly appearing sick at a hospital.  Very, very odd!

First we had the fiasco before, and after Songkran than initiated this 3rd ? Wave of Covid

Now we have exactly the same scenario again, with people travelling all over the Country and little, or no effective, Covid measures put in place.

Is it really possible that this much stupid, arrogant and ignorant is running a Country

Incorrect. The ratio of cases to deaths in Thailand currently is about 100 to 1 (1%). This is actually lower than the global average of 2%. Those countries with widespread testing (so picking up asymptomatic cases) and high vaccination rates may get a ratio of 1000 to 1 (0.1%), e.g. UK. Obviously Thailand isn't one of those.

BS

Workers started to leave Bangkok Friday/Saturday to beat the camp closures on Monday.

How can they say that they've already seen infections because of these movements.. testing takes time to process and for results to return and be recorded?

Mind you give it a week or two and see the real numbers.

Willful sabotage is the only logical explanation at this point, for serial failures, of any kind of plan to stop the spread of Covid.

A nearly unbelievable dereliction of duty, a staggering level of incompetence and an unforgivable indifference towards the people.

There are three Covid cases in our village. One is a school van driver who caught it from a worker who has returned from Bangkok. My wife has been in his house twice in recent days, wearing a mask, and a kid from his van has tested positive and the school has been closed. Actually, every school in Kalasin Province has been closed anyway, I believe.

The advice my wife received from the local health centre was to drink ginger and lime in boiled water as that would cure any Covid symptoms. Banging your head against the wall time again then......

banning travel completely for those July dates is what they should be doing.
