I have a cracked windscreen and are wondering if I should claim the repairs on my insurance or will it affect next years insurance cost, in which case it may be worthwhile. Does anybody know? I can't get a clear answer from those I've asked so far.

No, and the answer would be different tomorrow.

Roojai insurance has excellent English speakers who will know what your asking.

Maybe you should change your insurance company.

Most Insurance  will provide 1 windscreen a year without affecting your Insurance premium. I had one replaced a couple of months ago with Bangkok Insurance, without affecting premiums and was told this is normal here.

Wondering, my Isuzu got a new wind screen of 3'500 Baht, done in less than an hour and my insurance premium (voluntary first class insurance being of 50% non-claim-bonus) would have gone back to 100%.

I therefore opted to pay out of my pocket. So, in your case, work the numbers and if you got a muddy answer from the insurance then go and see them, note the name of the staff and complete the claim form with them. Ensure the remark (in English and in your hand-writing) that this claim as no impact on future premium billings. Alternatively pay it out of your pocket and, depending of where you are, go shopping around for a good deal in town ????

Good luck!

A few years ago it was around B5,000

Insurance or new windscreen? How much is a new windscreen? how much is your excess? Insurance doesn't really go up your car reduces in value every year. Is there any other old front end damage, that needs repair like big chips from paint, if so claim for the lot in one go.

Our car is fully insured. In the last two years we have some very minor scratches here and there and very tiny dent that one could hardly notice.

My Thai wife has on every occasion called the insurance company who have sent an official to examine and each time they have paid up 100%

Cracked windscreen would definitely be included at that rate!

The easiest way to find out is to ask the repair shop how much the repair is, with that information you go to your insurance company and ask them how much your insurance payment would go up if you had them pay for it and how long it will take for the payment to come back down to where it is now and then you need to make a decision whether you want to cough up the money for a new windshield/repair if that’s possible yourself or rather have the insurance pay for it first and then fork out the money in smaller increments in the form of insurance payments over a longer period of time instead of all at once, but either way, you’ll be the one paying for the repair.

My Toyota Vigo got cracked with rubble from all the road works locally, stone out the back of a truck. Insurance was/is class 2 plus as the truck is too old for class 1. Insurance said no. I got a quote or 3800bht but haven't done it as round here it's just a mass of road works and may happen again. Waiting for it all to finish maybe in 10 years at current rates of completion. Bought some crack repair stuff off Lazada to try in the meantime.

I got rocked a number of times and the crack repair stuff works great if done properly, but I would not try to do it myself.

Buying the correct tools would make it cost prohibitive, and without the correct tools I don't it will work well.

is it a chip that can be repaired or a new windscreen?

my company told me it would cost an extra 4000 to insure against windscreen replacement.

for several years, I used the same fitter (I've had about 5 windscreens) and he's always checked with the insurer on my half - the last 2 times attuned out I was covred, although I hadn't paid any extra!

as my insurance has been roughly the same year in year out it would seem that the windscreen isn't part of the no claims system.

BTW - if you have an older vehicle, it is possible it might have a zone toughened glass and this should be replaced with a laminated windscreen

Tinting is an extra expense and is largely just a hoax.

And let's not follow too close...

but one MUST - to maintain a 'cracking' pace...

Recently had a cracked windscreen on my old Isuzu  Dmax.

I insure with Roojai but have a Bt5,000 excess. Tried BQuick, but they couldn't help. Found a replacement company - Thai Car Glass in Pattaya - and they charged Bt4k for a laminated windscreen (no film). All done within about 20 minutes with no waiting and no extra charges. Great service
