After the mass vaccination rollout, governments and the public are looking forward to the reopening of borders, just like the “sandbox” project Thailand has just launched on Phuket island.

 

Some countries have been trying out the same or similar ideas, with varying degrees of success.

 

One of the first such countries is New Zealand, which is regarded as having handled the COVID-19 situation well. Since the early days of the pandemic, New Zealand and Australia have been studying the possibility of a bilateral travel “bubble”.

Will they ever make up their minds?

Is it more important to make money or save lives?

Right now a 4th wave is imminent with the new variants... why talk of opening borders until we know where we are going?

Someone woke up believing the pandemic was over and the world alright again.

In reality that 'bubble' has been on again off again.

Currently in Oz there are even interstate bans. 

Not to mention NZ population ~5 mil in total. 

And what does reopen borders mean.

I can't imagine I will be able to nip over to say Vietnam for a hello. So they can have 3 flights a week bkk to Samui. Gee that will kick start the economy.

So the borders will open up after max inoculation, so its 2013 at least then.

No I think he meant we need to go back in history in a time machine and then prepare for what's to come.  That will give 5 good years to develop a plan....

Watching the government react to the Covid pandemic is like watching Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau solve a crime.

Early on you get two people with the sniffles and there is a Covid alert, red zones, quarantines, businesses closed, alcohol sales stopped, police check points, mask mandates, airport closures etc. 

Now you have several thousand and they are opening the borders. Not that I don't think that opening does not make sense if the people coming in are vaccinated. 

It is just the ludicrous nature of watching them not being able to establish a cohesive policy.  They are opening the borders while simultaneously banning the sale of alcohol between certain hours.  As if Covid only spreads between 20:00 and 04:00.

All this with the back drop of reports that "they are still reviewing contracts" to procure Pfizer, and Moderna vaccines.  And of course lets not forget the sign up on Mor Prom and Intervac web sites. 

I have long said that you want the government to run as little as possible.  Only those things like national defense that the private sector can not do.  To look at the response begs the question, why would anyone ever think that having the government control health care is a good idea.

The rate they are going it will take a year or more to put a dint into "mass vaccination" even, so this opening up the country is, right now, nothing but a wishful thinking...

Hopefully they dont follow your pathetic vaccination rollout. What is it 4 mil fully vaccinated with 7 mil with one jab. all in 5 months

the last time it was 105mln, to add 10.5mln more sinovac.

that is contracted, but dates unknown.

Full 2 dose vax, with several weeks for the second dose to kick in properly, is sometimes around songran the next year.

By then new strains and boosters will be needed for those on sinovac or any other poor performing.

It's just propaganda to keep the proletariat confused that everything is in control and soon will bring much happiness and wealth to the people of Thailand.

 

The reality is very different.

 

This Government is so deep in the poo-poo, it's pretty much all they have left.

If they only allow in people who are fully vaccinated and show a recent negative Covid test then why not?

I suspect most of Thais (not that many) have been vaccinated with

Sinovac which is not effective against the Delta (indian Variant )

which spreads easier and is a lot more serious virus.

 

So when things are going downhill fast, Thailand is thinking of

opening up..????rolling eyes emoji ,  as still not working......

The two are not  mutually exclusive. I am sure they are looking for ways to accomplish both.

did I sense a little jealousy towards the Frenchies .... received J&J yesterday, tout est bien  555

Went with the Mrs and two neighbors to local hospital today for their sinovac jabs. Took 3 hours, not due to the numbers of people but because Mor prom kept crashing, The numbers were about 25, hardly a mass roll out
