PHUKET: For the first time in weeks the number of COVID infections recorded on a single day reached double-digits yesterday.

According to the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) daily COVID situation report for yesterday (July 9), Phuket recorded 10 new cases of infection.

The new infections brought the total number of COVID infections recorded on the island since Apr 3 to 776.

Don't care too much. Simply look how Koh Samui handles their great sandbox idea. Perhaps this island is a better idea to spend your valuable holidays in Thailand? At least if you don't care about Covid.

"While neighbouring Koh Phangan recently raided an unlicensed spa that locals complained was hosting parties and events in violation of Covid-19 restrictions, many bars and clubs in Koh Samui hotspots like Soi Mango in Chaweng and bars around Lamai and Bophut seem to be open and operating without any restrictions, indifferent to Covid-19 regulations.

On any given night, customers can be seen drinking and dancing without any masks or social distancing in popular clubs and small bars as well as “restaurants” masquerading as bars—no word on if this will change with the Samui Plus reopening."

That would be most ironic wouldn't it.

All these officials are supposed to have been vaccinated particularly the PM that had AZ, the rest?  Sinovac maybe the reason they are quietly slowing moving away from the Sinovac without letting the Chinese CCP know?

covid “cases” are irrelevant. covid presence/ deaths / hospital cases are relevant.

all covid variants are literally everywhere here. vax rates are relevant and pathetically low (5%?).

herd immunity years away here compared to nearly acheived in UK........

all govt. attempts to “contain” covid are futile; it cannot be contained, only reduced to flu/ cold levels

by vax / natural immunity / herd immunity......oh, vax & herd imm. hardly happening ......or is it ?

quite CLEAR  that thais have strong natural herd immunity....daily covid deaths “peaking” at 90

compared to what thousands dead daily at peak in UK ( comparable population).......

Well, if you go by the stats, then 90 death over 9000 daily cases, so we have 1% fatality is not so good...!?

Sadly deaths are a lagging outcome, and today's fatalities are better related to case figures from 7-10 days ago. With the recent figures I think we can probably expect deaths to increase significantly in the next 1-2 weeks. Even with he recent lockdown, it's safe to assume fatalities will increase before they decline.

Very true IMO. Detected new infections numbers have an obvious retrospective significance and deaths even more so.

The failure to respond to meaningfully to a combination of surging detections of a predominant  variant with a corresponding rate of serious causes for medical intervention or resulting deaths is almost certainly a statistical precursor of the yet to be disclosed reality .

Covid will never go away. It’s like trying to reduce the number of cases of people with a cold to zero.

Vaccinate the elderly and those with health problems. Let the rest of the population carry on.

They can't even do that.

India thought they had herd immunity.

Unfortunately herd immunity doesn't work with COVID-19 and all its variants.

Mrna vaccines for the entire population is the only way.

With the island quite isolated for a long time now, it would be really interesting the see the tracking of these people infected. Where did they get it from ?

Pesky farangs on the sandbox scheme obviously lol

false maths agusta. 9000 known cases means perhaps 900 K actual cases ( nearly all no symptoms)

worldwide death rates appear stable at 0.03 % given population, almost all very old or very sick......

hell lets increase that three times to get 0.1 % in some population groups, absolute tops,......if no herd immunity we have natural immunity, assisted by vax........

If you read carefully I said "if you go by the stats" , if not , then can make up your own .... !

The fact is they only report what they have, no one knows how many people exactly have caught Covid or died from it, and that's for any country, including UK / US/ EU / etc. , all is guess games and estimates....

Haha, 900k daily cases , are you really mean that... with that estimate all Thai population had it or will have it in a few weeks....!!! When you guys want to exaggerate , keep it in perspective..., and my math was false....lol

You wanted to say Thais maybe have better immunity in your first post due to low number of daily deaths of 90 comparing to UK, I just gave you a simple calculation that is probably not true, it's all same same all over the world....

When UK had 1000 dying daily , they were detecting 60,000 infections daily (probably more people had it , but that's what they tested and reported). Thailand still far from that...

I doubt they have "peaked" and given Thailands ability to be economical with figures I would suspect 90 to be on the low side

The Max. that died in any one day in the UK was around 900. Data can be found here https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-daily-deaths/

The figures from the UK are those that died that were confirmed positive for Covid in the last 28 days so IMHO were probably exaggerated (tested positive but were dying with cancer for example). Thailand just reports deaths from Covid.

Having said that, I do agree that Thailand will not see the same levels of deaths as other European countries.

yeah, well thats why “cases” ( they never give the testing basis so irrelevant) dont matter .....

only deaths ( given) and hospital cases ( which also are never given) ..... 60k UK cases ( as uk testing is what, ten times more efficient than here) detected could be ten times that undetected / no symptoms..... doesnt matter..... I repeat : the thing is everywhere & cannot be “contained” or suppressed without it mutating and surging later after govts announce its “ controlled” or “ past the peak”...... 99% deaths are very old or very sick......yet everyone else must suffer indefinitely.....
