Royal Thai Navy moves forward with proposal to purchase more submarines, dismisses criticism

Never mind, I can  guarantee  that a very large pile of tin medals are right now being  made to award  those tasked with procuring these things.   A thought, if they run out of room on their shirt front for them, can they tack them on their backsides??

I've never really understood the goofballs who complain about Thailand buying tanks, submarines or helicopters. It's a sovereign nation and they can spend money on national defense as any other nation does.  Given the escalating tensions in the region, it makes sense to be reasonably well-armed, and good military equipment is not cheap. Booze-soaked geezers at the beach can laugh about "protect from who? LOL!", but the reality is that all regional powers have a military. For deterrence if nothing else.

What world do you live in? Certainly not the same one as me.

People here  are starving desperate, thousands dying due to the governments serious failings.

Submarines are of no use what so ever to this country, Gulf of Thailand far too shallow for submarines.

For your info, i am not booze soaked or at the beach, not consumed alcohol in nearly 8 years.

Please explain what sense it makes Thailand having submarines.

I think it is you seeing the world through a boozed up state, not others.

Not that I am from that part of the world, but I have a mate from the good old U.S of A, whose son  is a member of their armed forces, and  regularly participates in  that Cobra Gold  military exercise   held in Thailand.  The son     gets us in hysterics  when he tells us about the antics and stupidity of Thai military personal.  One of his favourite sayings is,  how they have to watch  Thais dont run off the wrong end of the landing craft when their practising  beach assaults,   and drown, which some  apparently have, so   maybe those subs will have some purpose  after all, retrieving bodies??.

Oh dear, SubWay not submarines would be more appropriate now. With people starving things are really gonna be stirred up now. I guess the generals think, 'let them eat cake'. Such ignorance ????

According to Admiral Chettha Jaipiam, a spokesperson for the RTN, the purchase is part of the “duty” of the Royal Thai Navy to protect the country.

Protect the country from who LOL the only ones stupid enough would be the Chinese and that's who   you are probably buying them from so yet another waste of money like the space program instead of looking after the citizens affected by the Pandemic .

nothing to do with protecting the country but mainly to payback China for the so called "donated"  (garbage Sinovac) vaccines..... you scratch my back I scratch yours type deals

that they are moving forward with a controversial plan to purchases two submarines from China.

sure it's controversial, that money should be used to better use like the purchase of the correct  mRNA vaccines to replace and get rid of the Sinovac non performing ones

Drunk with power comes to mind.

USA 71 submarines

UK 11 submarines

It seems many Western immigrants are really fired up about Thailand, with its long coastline, intending to buy 2 submarines. Did it ever dawn on you that its because the world is unsafe. Especially since Western countries care jackass about international law? Especially since 1989? Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen. The bullying of Cuba, Venezuela, Serbia, Russia, China, Iran to name just a few countries. The list is endless.

The above 2 countries, with a proven track record of centuries of imperialism, adventurism, mass murder and foreign occupation, posess overwhelming firepower (ok the UK is a small guy thinking its big, but still dangerous enough) firepower that they use to bully souvereign countries into submission. Thailand doesnt buy these 2 subs from China to protect itself from China...

While 1,000s are going hungry have lost jobs ,have lost loved ones and Covid is chasing untold misery and  havoc here we see money being wasted on rust buckets now I know why the adverts say “ Amazing Thailand “ ☹️☹️☹️☹️

Could they be any more out of touch with reality?

I propose to name the said 2 submarine as: HTMS Sinovac and HTMS Sinopharm... (As the'll probably be as useful as their namesake)...

Did you forget to take your pills? You did not mention the number of submarines the two biggest bullies own. Why, because they are your communist friends? Like I told many times before those with a veto right within the (useless) UN are the biggest bullies and offenders.

So now, after 70+ years it's "their duty".

Honestly who do they think believes this rubbish.

submariners were on the outs since the Manhattan Rebellion (1951), and only with a successsion were they allowed a new toy.

Now they're making up for lost time. And appear to have no shame as the country they have sworn to defend is swirling down the bowl.

Perhaps they can convert them to space rockets as well, in order to protect everyone and reduce the dual budgets!!!! 5555????????????????????????????????

Yes. With everything going on in Thailand now I agree the most important thing is getting submarines. That will make me feel a lot more safe. LOL

What a joke this government is!

Please show me links to reports people are starving. You know what starving means right?

"dying because of not having enough food". Links please.

There is none so blind as them that cannot see.

So the photos showing hundreds of people waiting patiently on Pattaya beach for food hand outs are fake, open your eyes, stop trying to be clever.

The two subs are worth 22.5 billion Bahts. That's about 45 million vaccines. The primary function of the army being to protect the Nation and its people, I understand that they found a way to fight off Covid with submarines.

Just think of the huge kickbacks involved in this project. It’s no wonder the generals keep putting this on the agenda and keep pushing it.

Now I get it. It was right in front of me. They can shoot the Thai fishing boats that oppose the government.

If it's not knocked back then something is really wrong with this country.

While citizens have to fork-out for their own efficient vaccines the navy wants to buy useless submarines.

Thailand as a Country is going down the gurgler pretty quickly.

I suppose a Sub could follow them down to the Bottom.
