Everything I've read puts asymptomatic infections around 40-50 percent.

Asymptomatic persons seem to account for approximately 40% to 45% of SARS-CoV-2 infections, and they can transmit the virus to others for an extended period, perhaps longer than 14 days.

However that study did not take into account pre symptomatic where they are first asymptomatic but then later develop symptoms. Its now generally accepted that true asymptomatic account for just 17-30% max of all covid patients. Look at any study from this year, not last year, or any goverment statistics including the UK or US

  • Happy sandbox holiday to those who spent all that money and jumped through all those hoops. My question to you is was it worth it?

Tourist room reservation in Phuket slumps after surge in new cases

Some 9,000 tourists have reserved hotel rooms in Phuket for August, lower than the expected 25,000 to 30,000 tourists in the second month of the Phuket Sandbox programme that started on July 1, the Phuket Tourist Association said.

Anyone noticed any refference of the marker which the normal world use. The R value which is created by  the medical society to keep the right tabs on the situation. It beats clouds of smokes and mirrors which large uncheckable numbers.  Would be a suggestion to use?

Can you find someting that isn't more than a year old. I can't find anything directly related to Delta. Of course the higher the number of asymptomatic and presymptomatic the more it will spread.

Just a question.

Vaguely recall Buriram having connection to big government.

Anutin?

I could be completely wrong there.

The Thai MoPH recently (July 26) reported that about 55% of its total COVID patients in the hospital system in the Bangkok region, including field hospitals, were asymptomatic (the light green line below). But another 22+% had moderate to severe symptoms (the yellow and red lines).

That kind of breakdown would look very different if they did it just for COVID patients in traditional hospitals. The field hospital system, on the other hand, basically serves as mainly a kind of quarantine / isolation system for patients with no or only mild symptoms.

Coronavirus: Prayuth takes aim at Thailand’s celebrities as vaccine outrage mounts

Amid record deaths, stalling vaccinations and questions over the Chinese-made Sinovac jab, the Thai leader is under fire from former supporters and the rich and famous

Rather than apologise, his administration has gone into attack mode, with defamation claims and a ban on ‘false messages’ in the media

Ok 55% but does this also include pre-symptomatic (what's the dark green line?). There is of course a definitional difference. One will never have symptoms the other will go on to develop symptoms be it mild or severe. What this does show is there are plenty of people out there moving this virus throughout the population and as long as it's allowed to spread the longer it survives.

Vaccinated People May Spread the Virus, Though Rarely, C.D.C. Reports

July 30, 2021CUS)
In yet another unexpected and unwelcome twist in the pandemic, the (US) centers for Disease Control and Prevention released on Friday a report strongly suggesting that fully immunized people with so-called breakthrough infections of the Delta variant can spread the virus to others just as readily as unvaccinated people.

The vaccines remain powerfully effective against severe illness and death, and the agency said infections in vaccinated people were comparatively rare. But the revelation follows a series of other recent findings about the Delta variant that have upended scientists’ understanding of the coronavirus.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/30/health/cdc-vaccinated-delta.html

Your highlighted in bold is interesting. It may be rare for now but the breakthrough is only recent. Just watched Faucci saying that the level of virus in the nasopharynx of a fully vaccinated person is the same as an unvacciated person. Infection of and transmission by vaccinated people may well be just another evelutionary path of this virus and incidences may become less rare.

Dark green line is the mild symptoms group.

Cheers so asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic are shown as one. Question is what's the breakdown of the 55% into one and the other. For my mind I think pre-symtomatic would be the higher value. Nevertheless I'm assuming these are only found in clusters or contact tracing.

The following is a roundup of some of the latest scientific studies on the novel coronavirus and efforts to find treatments and vaccines for COVID-19.

Delta infections among vaccinated likely contagious; Lambda variant shows vaccine resistance in lab

Among people infected by the Delta variant of the coronavirus, fully vaccinated people with "breakthrough" infections may be just as likely as unvaccinated people to spread the virus to others, new research suggests. The higher the amount of coronavirus in the nose and throat, the more likely the patient will infect others. In one Wisconsin county, after Delta became predominant, researchers analyzed viral loads on nose-and-throat swab samples obtained when patients were first diagnosed.

UK nowhere near highest, but they’re beyond all that silliness anyway. Focus is hospitalisations/deaths, not numbers. Basically downgraded to flu as it ain’t going anywhere. Time to move on.

Thais grow restive in year two of Covid

Danupha Kanateerakul, better known as Milli, is a Thai rapper who had a breakout hit, “Phak Khon” (“Chill Out”) in early 2020, on the cusp of the pandemic, when she was just 17. Her songs, seasoned with trash talk and “Luu” slang favoured by gay and transgender Thais, are about as far from politics as you can get.

Aren't the building sites supposed to be closed?

Yesterday around 7pm, a truck full of workers, cramped together were driving to their rooms. No social distancing, definitely more than 5 and they came from a building site.

Probably not everyone had to stop their building project.

Quite a few sites reopened in Bangkok a few weeks ago.  One that I walk past every day has a huge sign saying that most of the workers are vaccinated, which might be why they can open.

Yep... there are signs for Fyffes Bananas on UK buses, but they don't sell them! So they got them double vaccinated with the required 12 weeks between doses and 2 weeks wait after the second dose... that was quick.

I'd still do Phuket if possible. And yes, it would be worth it. Still better than ASQ in Bangkok.

Couple of weeks back I had to renew my 5 year driving licence, thought I would just go to the venue to see what the situation was now, a friend said, no tests, just walk in and out, the Covid thing.

How wrong he was, it was like the entrance to a big name football match. I got in the queue, after 5 minutes I walked out, I thought this is flushing ridiculous.

So I went to a driving school not far away to ask if they can help get my renewal. Mrs.Trans told me yes they can. So next day went to this school, watched the vid, photo taken, blah, blah. At the end of it all, eeeer, licence, oh you take this paperwork to the licencing office to get the licence...????

Mrs.Trans did receive some verbal for NOT getting the facts right. Next day I had to join the Covid scrum at the licence venue, absolutely appalling situation, and to top it all I had the eye and reaction tests.

It's no wonder Ubon is now upping the Covid numbers..????
