OP, can you quote or link to the article ?

Three years on a retire extension does not qualify you for Permanent Residency.

Three years continuous stay (on other visa) and three years minimum income and paying tax are some of the PR requirements. You cannot work on a retire visa/extension, so you cannot show the required income/tax.

I you do get PR, then you dont need to do annual visa/extensions.

It used to be said that after 3 consecutive extensions of stay a person was eligible to apply for residency. Having attained  residency status allows for application for a work permit rather than it be a prerequisite.

On paper you can get it when you have worked and paid taxes for 3 years.

After 25 years I still don't have it as they (immigration) make their own rules up along the way.

Married, adult children (now) , company, work permit etc etc.

Don't mention it to much over here because experts (selfmade) will tell you that you don't know a thing.

Ubonjoe is the only person I would trust on this.

If you're married with Thai, u can directly apply for Thai citizenship

So, obviously not. How can you pay income tax, having a retirement visa?

To play devil's advocate, some people here on retirement extensions have high overseas income from various sources. Few pay any taxes on this, but they could. Just maybe, having been here for a number of years, paying tax on 200,000 baht a year, an application for permanent residence might be considered. The possibility would not induce me to make such an investment, but it might be possible.

It has to be tax paid on a income earned here from working with a work permit.

Do you know if anyone was granted PR in the investment category. The 10 Mill THB investment category ?

Yes but it still requires a work permit and etc.

The file I posted a download for earlier lists the requirements.

Yep, it's better than being in Australia, England or the USA, most of Europe and all other Asian countries. Only the Philippians and Sweden would I consider and I didn't buy a house there.

I know plenty of people who got it without any issues whatsoever. Friends, former boss, etc. I’ll do mine this year. Let’s see how that goes.
