BANGKOK (NNT) - The Foreign Affairs spokesperson has issued a clarification on the million Pfizer doses to be received from the U.S. Government.

Mr. Tanee Sangrat, the MFA’s spokesperson and Director-General of the MFA’s Department of Information has clarified that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington D.C. have been closely coordinating the delivery of the second batch of Pfizer vaccine from the United States.

At the moment, the US side is reportedly still working on the donation internally. The vaccine delivery has not yet been scheduled and the US has not coordinated with Thailand regarding documentation yet.

Mr. Tanee insists that the Ministry attaches great importance to cooperation with other countries for more access to the COVID-19 vaccine, and is monitoring progress on this matter.

Currently,Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs is attending the 76th Session of UN General Assembly in the US . He is scheduled to visit Washington to meet with high-level representatives , including Lieutenant Colonel Tammy Duckworth, the US Senator for Illinois, to discuss procurement of vaccines from the US.

The US previously announced it would donate a total of 2.5 million doses, 1.5 million of which arrived in Thailand at the end of July 2021.

A synonym for 'misunderstanding' - AKA 'lies'.

Better than Anutins previous explanation that it was fake news I suppose.

Lets hope this won't be the last free donation by the US as a result of this.

TH deserve nothing at this point in the way of vaccine donations from USA, they can go pound sand with their BS and lies.

Yep, Rolls Royce did the right thing and played the envelopes game.

Senator Duckworth also said that the US government is ready to deliver the remaining one million doses, but the Thai government has not yet returned the required response document.

He (Anutin) explained today (Thursday) that there may have been a misunderstanding, saying that protocol dictates that the US State Department must inform the Thai Foreign Ministry, via the US embassy in Bangkok, about the donation (Pfizer) and, to date, no such formal notification has been received.

conclusion:

the Document Signing Committee is still being formed, and the US failed to get a Queue Number for their Pfizer donation.

Senator Duckworth retired from the military in 2014.  She is now an elected Senator, not a military officer. Therefore, she should be referred to and addressed as Senator Duckworth.

Will it help that the Thai Minister will now go and personally meet with the American Senator? I doubt it ... the US is waiting on paperwork, and unless the Thai Minister has that in his back pocket, it won't progress things.

While the USA says it's waiting for Thailand to send the documentation....

Hmmm

Unlike Thailand, once a General always a general.

I suppose they thought if they just keep quite, the American's might go away, as they don't want to upset out Sinovac friends, again, politics with people's lives at stake.

Indeed, so it seems.

1. Although this instance came to light, it begs the question: how often does this happen, but never come to light, in the ordinary course of this government?

2. Perhaps it's true (what I once read on these pages): the entire civil service is devoted solely to enriching themselves ... so this US vaccine business was cast aside as unproductive ... and left for the tea-lady to deal with.

That’s ok I have had my two shots, think about those who are still waiting.

There is more to this than we are being drip-fed I fear. The Bhutan deal was done at lightning speed, and also the Japanese donation. China I bet has a dark hand in this.

Nonsense. The Thai people deserve good vaccines, regardless of the chappy government

The exception to that comment is, the Thai people miss out, not that the government muppets give a rats @®$&.

She is probably more capable than the rest of them in total...

Clearly the envelope is sitting on some bureaucratic numbnutz desk. He’s in Dutch for not processing it, so remains facelessly silent, and no one else knows who this blockhead is, so they want to pretend it never arrived.

And of course blame the yanks.
Who are patiently waiting.

And since it is 100% criminal for USA citizens to hand over brown envelopes to thai ministers or their minions, they must know that is not happening, full stop.

Let alone give out teamoney for a freebee donation…. Oh, here’s your bribe to accept this free donation. Enjoy!

I hope they get it at least sorted out by end March 2022 ..., as i hope to get my 3th Pfizer then as a booster jab , 6 month's after my second Pfizer ????

Hmmm, this American citizen retired full time resident of Thailand would vote to disagree. These international donations are the positive actions I want my country to be known. Not how we have unending warfare …

Preferred, I would agree. I believe historically, President Eisenhower continued to be addressed as General by some?

Don't think the Thai authorities are in any position to burn bridges at this stage.

They really aren't very good at this, are they?

You can’t get kickbacks from the free stuff—sorry.

To be fair mate they are just progressing with their usual level of day to day incompetence...
