BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand will let vaccinated visitors from 46 countries forgo COVID-19 quarantine from next month, up from 10 previously announced, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said on Thursday.

 

The Southeast Asian country is poised to introduce the new quarantine-free travel arrangements on Nov. 1 as it seeks to revive its vital tourism industry.

 

The 46 countries include Britain, the United States, China, Singapore, Germany and Australia, according to the ministry of foreign affairs.

 

Prayuth said the visitors could skip mandatory quarantine as long as they arrive via air, have been fully vaccinated and have a document to show they are virus-free.

 

Thailand will reopen the capital Bangkok and other key tourist destinations, including Hua Hin and Pattaya, where curfews will be lifted at the end of the month, according to the Royal Gazette released late on Thursday.

 

Strict entry requirements and quarantine measures helped keep Thailand's coronavirus outbreaks under control until recent months, but the curbs saw arrival numbers plummet to a fraction of the nearly 40 million visitors seen in 2019.

 

Thailand lost about $50 billion in tourism revenue last year, an 82% plunge.

 

It started with a pilot reopening that began on July 1 on its most popular island, Phuket, which has been vaccinating most of its local population.

 

Just 100,000 foreign visitors are expected this year, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

If that was all it was then it would be fine, But its not, its additional testing on arrival and a quarantine until proven virus free and insurance, and.........................

So.. Will the old one month visa when moving through airport immigration be available, that you can extend for further periods, as it seems they're welcoming longer stays.

So basically everything is the same except 1 day quarantine. Insurance, Thailand pass, PCR test will prevent people from entering.

That indeed is good news. I am excited to be able to visit friends and family around the world again without all the hustle associated with previous systems in the past two years. 

Is it perfect? certainly not, but a vast improvement IMO.

I'm confused because one- to two-day quarantine does not sound like "quarantine-free". Somebody please explain.

Struth, It’s a night in a hotel. A lot of people (not all) when they arrive after travelling for many hours just want to doss for a night to recharge the battery. 
 

It’s hardly a big deal but I guess if it’s not this it will be something else to have a moan about.

I have an apartment in Bangkok. I want to go straight there. I don't want to pay for their unnecessary hotel.

And that is what matters the most, posters on TV seem to not pay attention to this very crucial detail.

There really isn't much difference, as it's unnecessarily restrictive to the masses.

Could it not simply be that HK is the only territory so listed last.....although Taiwan is missing.

it was confirmed by royal gazette.  now they need to get rid of coe and introduce travel pass . asap...........to reflect the new one night deal on nov 1 .  instead of 7 night quarantine, also the new 50000 insurance not the 100000 insurance previously required.  as of now the coe only offers 7 nights quarantine or 7 nights sandbox.  and only 100000 insurance option.  i suspect the new travel pass will be updated to reflect new rules in a day or two

they need to get rid of that coe  very soon.  as this new deal will bring in alot of tourists on nov 1.  hoardes of them..................i could have sworn they promised to get rid of coe and have a travel pass instead and that that was supposed to happen like yesterday. ok now that new rules have been posted i suspect coe will be eliminated like tomorrow or next day.  as the coe only offers 7 nights quarantine or 7 nights sandbox but not the new one day deal starting on nov .1

I read this: According to the foreign ministry, travellers must have resided in the eligible countries and territories for at least 21 consecutive days--- So if you are living in Thailand and travel to one of these countries and stay less than 21 consecutive days, then WHAT?
