I feel the need to stir the pot. Does anyone else believe this is a DELIBERATE effort to kill the red-light venues, as an indirect way to actualize the xenophobia of the current “administration.” They hate foreigners, they want them out, and this is an effective way to do it without overtly declaring so; similar to the retirement alterations

There is no other logic behind these specific closures, considering that places like tree town are blatantly selling alcohol and the place is packed with people every night. there is no logic in closing open air bars if this is allowed max

It's obvious you don't know what's going on in the world.

The report also said that Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-Cha called on business owners within the entertainment industry “not to be selfish” with regards to reopening.

My favourite part . It’s coming from someone who has never ever experienced any financial hardship.

Someone who promised assistance to businesses that was never given or received

But most importantly from a government that still expects all taxes to be paid up to date while businesses ordered to close for 8-9 months already

True, but people don't hang around for 2 or 3 hours in 7-11 chugging back their bottle of 100 Pipers????

I wonder how many of those genuine tourists (I very much doubt it will be many) that are prepared to accept the entry requirements are actually aware that much of the country is basically, closed. Being in the West, in a country that is basically back to normal and 'living with Covid 19' its easy to forget that much of the world is still subject to tight restrictions. I've been told I'll be shocked at the changes when I get back.

When people have a good time on holiday, they often return year after year.  How many of this season's tourists will want to come back?

Yet another own goal Thailand.

Open is open - closed is closed.

Phuket Bars & Pubs & Nightclubs & Alcohol & Live Music all OPEN since 1Nov as Govt Decree.

Masks, Distancing, Hand Cleaning Not Enforced. No Police.

Patong Bangla was “jumping” only last night.

Should be same for 15 other thai areas in Govt. Decree, inc. all other tourist zones like Pattaya.

Truth be told vast majority of bar workers returned back to their villages. Bars being closed is not a single business problem but it affects all other businesses from apartments , hotels to 7-11 stores and clearly even tourist arrivals , not even mentioning restaurants , down to noodle shops

So the hundreds, maybe thousands of owners of small bars that are permanently shuttered are all selfish? There is a big difference between a small bar with a couple of people sitting outside to a large bangkok establishment with live bands, go go dancers and hundreds of patrons. The suits in their air conditioned offices have no clue about real life, and think they are virtuous to destroy many honest businesses all in the name of their sanctimonious, puritanical ideals.

Not personally seen any of the big clubs open around Nana open, but there are plenty of bars operating. Soi 7 was rammed last Saturday.

Test driving probably to see how many rise in covid cases .... before they allow other city's to open bars & nightlife

I have it on good authority that a lot of the girls that used to work in Pattaya and returned home during the lockdown, are now in Phuket.

I think the Catch 22 for Thailand is partly to do with colours.  If they open up completely and go back to everything open as normal and then the COVID numbers go up again, they will end up on other countries red lists.  By keeping most things closed they are more likely to keep the cases falling, meaning they will be on the green lists.

The Catch 22 bit is that tourists won't want come to a country on the red list with all the quarantine issues, nor will they want to come to a country on the green list that is still virtually in lockdown.   So in essence, ex-pats would be better off with everything open and Thailand being on the red list as long they live there, but not if they want to go back to their home countries any time soon.  For that, Thailand needs to be on the green lists.

The U.K. has over 30000 new cases a day and it’s not on any countries Red list ?

A better guess that these restrictions will only apply to particular areas of the country.

Thousands of such venues, upcountry and outer provinces, have remained open for quite some time and I suspect they'll continue to operate regardless.

This conditioning that BKK, Patters, Phuket, and numerous other like locales are the conscious center of the universe as it applies to the whole of Thailand is pointedly bizarre.

I have been thinking this through for some time now. I will declare that I have a minor interest in a small (single shophouse) bar in Chiang Rai.

I think, that in certain "farang orientated" areas (Pattaya, Hua Hin) there is certainly a desire to clear out the hotchpotch of small independently owned bars. This will clear the way for special " Casino" zones a- la Sihanoukville. The money making potential of which can hardly have gone unnoticed amongst the influential.

Similar - but perhaps real estate based ambitions - may apply to Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza.

I also suspect that there are those amongst the influential who may be interested in becoming major players in the Thai orientated nightlife scene.

Elsewhere, the smaller places (such as Chiang Rai) are probably just collateral damage.

Covid restrictions provide an opportunity.

I was in Buri Ram last weekend. Many/most bars, clubs & venues operating normally there. Live music , alcohol in glasses (not coffee mugs). I think they are far enough away from Prayuts grasp to not really give a damn..

Stupidest place on ???? "BAR" NONE! ????

Just a great way to make sure the country continues to suffer. This is keeping tourists away (along with all of the government's other missteps) and the longer they keep bars closed and don't allow alcohol in restaurants the worse things will get for the people here.

Even if this is just a rumor it will keep many people from coming here for what's left of the high season.

These guys just can't get out of their own way.

I basically gave up even trying to find logic in Thailand.

But sometimes I still think: Why?

What do they think is the point of this? Do they want to make sure fewer people visit Thailand? Do they think more people will get infected when more places, with close contact, will open?

Is it just to pi@$ off people? What is the real reason for this?

I think even those people who make the decisions must be aware that nightlife is a major attraction for people who live in Thailand and who visit Thailand.

You make some very good points and I also cannot see the logic.  Bankrupt a certain line of business or some powerful business groups and then somebody else takes over?  Just theorising!

Not to be pedantic, I don't think you can eviscerate from a face....it has to be from the insides. Just saying, but I get your meaning, and empathise.

Hopefully they open pubs/bars in Pattaya soon. I saw loads of "Pattaya looking" types in Bangkok last weekend. I think we are being invaded. There will be rows of Pattaya plated Fortuners jamming up Soi 4 soon, bringing their unvaccinated brethren with them, Chang vests, cargo shorts and all. Sunburnt shaved heads everywhere. Please lord, open a few bars down there - this has to stop ????.

Yeah, give us our old whores back! We need them back in Patts!

So have I got this right?

- mandated covid insurance that may not pay for asymptomatic mandated hospital stay, and definitely not close contact quarantine confinement

- mandated 1 nights quarantine  with mandated taxi plus pre-paid PCR test and ATK test to take with us

- you must promise to not drink or socialise with anybody while in Thailand

- no bars, night clubs or anything that makes Thailand a great holiday will be available

Where do I sign, sounds great?
