So they travelled to a total of 10 provinces and asked 10 people a day ? Fact they could only find 10 tourists a day in each province speaks volumes. Imagine being told you could do 10 surveys a day a

  • As a tourist—despite propensity to be ripped off and the odd shady character—Thais in general are the best. We’ve always known this. It’s a shame this tinpot joke of a government feels the need to set

Strange headline. Seems to indicate there may be some kind of issue in this area.

I was once interviewed for one of these TAT surveys. I did state that I wasn't a tourist and had lived in Thailand for a long time but this didn't deter them and I just went along, despite most questions being of no relevance to me.

I have to agree with this survey, I've met a lot of really friendly Thai ladies in the bars I've visited.

Being met at the airport with staff kitted out in PPE/Hazmat gear screams, welcome and have a relaxing holiday

Thai people are friendly.

TAT has that down pat!

Daily practice... it seems.

Friendliness is a Thai trait….thais confuse friendliness for service…

service is a trained factor so it can vary from business to business even  geographically where it can be imbedded into that sub culture

Thais rarely train their employees correlated to service….

need to understand what service is before implementing customer service training

immigration office wasn't on the list ....  :cheesy:

All foreigners in Thailand are tourists.

This survey appears to be based on tourist interaction with Thais working in tourism.  Of course they are going to be friendly and good manners.
But actually living here for a period of time , one will see the reality.

Either fearing for their lives, being locked-up, deported or back to quarantine...
"YES I LOVE THAILAND!!!"

This is another one of those " what are we going to put out today to the media to show that we're working" item, no credence what so ever to what they put out, pure propaganda...

I've witnessed tour operators (speed boat crew/jet ski operators/taxi mafia/etc.) berating on tourists more than enough times to rate it "satisfied" myself. And that's probably being generous. Not's not accounting for the the arrogance and rudeness from the bureaucrats (cops/IOs/etc).

Article mentions that the interviews were conducted face-to-face.

"How you like Thailand?" is used universally as a conversation starter among Thais interacting with foreigners. Most tourists quickly learn that any response other than a super-enthusiastic "I LOVE Thailand!!!!" is usually met with crestfallen disappointment and that giving nuanced feedback is not generally very well received. This would be especially true if the interviewer was wearing any type of official uniform. It would be interesting to see if the responses solicited by Western interviewers were more candid.

With that said, had I been interviewed, I probably would have given high marks, except perhaps at the airport. Am also left wondering what item #13 "Thai People Services" encompasses. :whistling:

Hmm, now I wonder why bars and clubs are missing from that list when they played such a major part in the holidays of many tourists before the pandemic? Maybe Prayut's got his dream and only quality family tourists are coming to Thailand now, the kind of people who want to spend their holiday at historical sites and on eco-tourism, and would never dream of going anywhere but their five-star hotel's cocktail bar for a libation, lol.

"Satisfied." Sums it up.

Satisfied? They should be delighted! And feel a bit exhausted afterwards. And such good value for the money!

I am not a touristi Thailand.

I am an expat and have lived here for 15+ years.

I am very content with the Thai people, they are nice to me and I am nice to them.

But.......

I am not so happy with the authorities of Thailand, changing the rules is not nice, at all.

And what hurts most is the double pricing, particularly in hospitals where as a taxpayer I am singled out for higher pricing because I am supposed to be richer.

Very unfair!
