Netizens furious with Anutin: "Maskless" minister holds New Year party after slamming Thai public as "selfish"

Thai media Kapook reported on a house party at the home of Thailand's DPM and minister of public health Anutin Charnvirakul.

Pictures of the party were posted on Instagram by the billionaire minister's own son Pek and there was barely a mask in sight.

This came after the minister blamed some Thais for being selfish at new year and causing clusters of infections that saw cases rise by 3,000.

Posters had a field day blaming the minister for "one rule for him, one rule for the plebs".

One said sarcastically: "Yeh, thanks so much for teaching me. Now teach your son."

They said he couldn't say it was just for a photo - nobody else behind him was wearing a mask either.

The media made no comment as to whether the minister had done anything wrong in going without a face covering at a private party, notes ASEAN NOW.

going by his own standards/comments he has made, doesnt this make him and all his family/guests without masks dirty thais seeing he called us dirty farangs because one person didnt want to take & wear a mask he was handing out, then again here in Thailand it seems to be  one rule for the govt/elite and a totally different one for the other thais/farangs

No surprise here. Extreme hypocrisy. But ultimately, his gang has the tanks and the guns and the grunts so they can do what they like. They are literally laughing at the population while insulting them at the same time.

Hopefully those that supported the coup in 2014 may think differently next time.

I have no respect for this man in any shape or form - he turns my stomach when I see his face

but it pains me to say - this just looks like a family photo from his own home

This kind of thing has now become expected of Anutin.

I dont think it should come as surprise to anyone. Politicians around the world are double faced  [deleted]

No big surprise here. It just perfectly portraits once again, what's really going on in Thai society.

Didn't he mention the other day, he's ready to become a Prime Minister?? God forbid! It would be a pain for everyone, not just for the odd "dirty" farang. ????????

Typical of many of those in charge. 'Let them eat cake.' Come the revolution.????

Mel Brook in his epic and very funny movie History of the world I said it best  "it's good to be the king"

and here in Thailand, It's good to be the minister... and do pretty much how you pleased...

Same-same but different: Khun Anutin might be the next PM - according to himself, he is interested - our present PM got a fine for not wearing mask...:whistling:

Son has inherited the 'intelligence' of his father.

Which is probably just as well - if his father realises his declared ambition his talents will be in much demand in the new dynasty, sorry, I meant humble government service!

Agree with you, however, it's an opportunity to shame him, don't you being going soft on him now, we need you ????

Hopefully the more shaming, the less we will see of him in the future ?

It's a little more than ‘just a family photo’.... If looking at the other links, but it's hardly a huge party super spreader event its being exaggerated to be.

This is no worse than what most people got up to - We also went to someones house for NYE.

A bubble of friends, all Antigen Tested before we went.

This report is simply people searching for outrage.

Anutin had family and friends round for NYE, most people did. Thats hardly a big deal.

Given the backdrop, and the fact that others in the picture are wearing coats/jackets, holding bags, purses etc. it doesn't really look like your typical living room scene.

However, even if that is what his home looks like (an interesting choice of wallpaper), I think it's justified that he's getting so much ill will from the public given his behaviour over the last couple of years. I hope it continues so he realizes just how hated he is by his fellow Thais.

Of course, all Thaivisa posters wear masks at home where they're not mandated to be worn, there's no hypocrites on this forum!

Do as I say, not as I do..

You're family masks up at home, does it?

Thats a great photo, great looking backdrop, nice looking family.

Happy New Year Khun Anutin and Family.
