The chief of the Phayathai police station in Bangkok has told the family of the doctor who died on a Zebra Crossing a couple of weeks ago that they should have no concerns about the Royal Thai Police and their investigations.

Waralak Suphawtrajariyakul - bettern know as Dr Kratai - was mown down on the crossing by police Lance Corporal Norawich Buadok riding a Ducati Monster on January 21st outside a kidney institute.

The mother of the opthalmologist, concerned about the transparency of the investigation involving a policeman, filed a letter with the Commissioner for Law, Justice and Human Rights Secretariat of the House of Representatives.

Pol Col Bowonphop Sunthornrekha said that she was within her rights to do so but she need have no fear that the case was not being handled fairly and justly.

His investigation team would answer any questions put to them by House reps.

"The Thai police do things with scrupulous fairness and justice," he told Thai Rath yesterday.

"And we don't cover things up.

"We are quite open about our investigations and can be approached anytime for details".

He did, however, say that what the lance corporal gave in evidence and the precise details will have to wait until the court case.

Prosecutors will have the case file by mid February, he said, the police were still waiting on a Ramathibodhi Hospital autopsy report before wrapping up their investigation.

Norawich - who entered the monkhood briefly to atone for the event - has been charged with nine counts.

Agree with you, and that is really the worrying part, because if they believe that, then there is no need for the RTP to have a good look at itself and get rid of endemic corruption.

Total rubbish.......look at the Koh Tao investigation, look at the Red Bull fiasco.

Scrupulously fair RTP. A bit like saying Justin Bieber is the most talented singer in history. Or, the Chinese government is the most open and transparent. Or North Korea is a kind and generous nation. Or Trump was truthful. Or Anutin has been an effective health minister. Or Prayuth is a good leader.

If not even the Thai peoples trust the quality and transparency of police investigations, the Pol Col Bowonphop Sunthorn Rekha  should ask herself a few questions

Autopsy? Something to prove the Doctor was at fault? Probably died of Covid so the Lance Corporal shouldn't be punished. They're after an angle of nonresponsibility and probably will be successful.

First of all, the RTP at it's inception seems to have been created with a status quo from the government. We will NOT pay you a living wage, but you have a franchise, and the limit of your income is based solely on your own creativity and initiative, and you will always be protected. Is that not the case? So, how is sincerity ever expected?

So, even if this clown was sincere, which of course he is not, where would you begin to change that culture? You know where? You would double all salaries. And invest in modern equipment, forensic labs and an effective highway patrol. Probably a trillion baht to start.

Many years ago, my sister in law, was involved with a rather dodgy Brit, while living on Samui. When she finally ditched him, he was livid, and just could not handle it. He ended up coming one night, at 3:30am, and burning down her bungalow, which was made of wood and thatch. It went up like a bomb. Fortunately, neither she, nor her roommate were there at the time, or they would have either died, or ended up with major 3rd degree burns all over their bodies, which I believe was his intention. In most countries, this would be treated as attempted murder, correct? The police were able to find a video of him racing away from the scene, at around 3:35am, as there was a CCTV camera in front of the police station, only a few hundred meters away from her bungalow. They took him in, and told him he would have to leave Thailand, and could never return. Not sure what exchanged hands, for him to not have been arrested. He was also told he would have to pay my sister in law 120,000 baht for the destruction of her gold, cash, and possessions. Same for her friend. He did pay. We know that for a fact, as we were friendly with a couple of his friends. When she went to the police station to collect, she was told that he never paid, and he was already back in the UK. But, that they had advocated for her, and made sure he could never come back to Thailand! When she pushed, and told them that she knew for a fact that he had paid them, she was told that her life was now in danger, and that she needed to back down, and go away, or her safety could not be guaranteed.

The real problem is, you cannot report these guys. Not to the higher ups, not to the provincial authorities, and certainly not to the army. They are all corrupt beyond imagination. And the level of corruption simply escalates, the further up the food chain you go. They are not expected to be honest, and they are not expected to engage in law enforcement, traffic or public safety, on any level. It is an irrevocably broken and dysfunctional system. Anything hyperbole to the contrary, is just a smoke screen, intended to deceive the naive amongst us.
