BANGKOK (NNT) - Authorities are anticipating that the number of Indian tourists to Thailand will reach 500,000 by the end of 2022, after surpassing 100,000 since January.

Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said Indian travelers could generate as much as 22.5 billion baht in revenue.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) also aims to attract 3,000 daily Indian visitors to the kingdom through various promotional campaigns and special travel incentives.

The TAT further noted that wedding tourism has been exceedingly popular to the Indian market, having since set a goal of holding 400 such events in the kingdom this year.

In addition to India, TAT is focusing on the Middle East and Thailand’s neighbors until the end of September, when the peak season resumes.

At least 500,000 international tourists are anticipated each month, a significant rise from the authority’s initial forecast of 300,000 and a sign of increased optimism for the sector’s revival.

Thanakorn added that Thailand now plans to welcome 7-10 million international tourists and produce 1.5 trillion baht in revenue from the industry by the end of 2022, which is roughly half the amount generated in the previous full year preceding the pandemic.

You don't just announce you are open, and people pour in here, like the arrogant goons thought would happen, as Thailand is the center of the known universe, right?

Also, no sacrifices or improvements have been made. The Indians are used to a ramshackle look, so this will not bother them. And then there is the geographic convenience factor.

The problem with the TAT is that there's too many Chiefs, and not enough Indians.

These are the ones they want, not the keenok necklace-losing gang-bang mongers that the Pattaya barfly set love to hate.

This isn't over, the greatest depression is just about to hit. There's a perfect storm of market insanity, supply chain chaos, China's emerging Covid inspired economic disaster, likely followed by a war to divert the Chinese  peoples anger, Ukraine, and the fallout (let's hope non-nuclear) of that, global food insecurity, the crash of everything, and hyperinflation.

Thailand is in for a harder time than what's just happened. Bank on it.

I caught up with my mate & his wife (both British by birth of Indian Heritage) on my last UK trip & the wife was saying how bad she felt because they could only have 150 guests at their youngest sons wedding, there were >400 guests at the elder son’s wedding pre-Covid.

It was eye watering how much he spent on them, Indian Weddings really are big business if you can get them.

Not just the programs fault. No country anywhere around the globe is back to normal tourist numbers. And re your photos of decay and neglect, I wager such scenes exist in any city anywhere. Maybe try to accentuate the positive next time? Swampy was packed with hundreds of tourist arrivals on saturday which bodes well for the future.

I can confirm this. Only thing I'm upset about it shows how old I'm getting when it's my mates kids getting married.  Agree they are huge events.

One of my Indian mates I grew up with in London family are in the garment trade. Seriously minted.

His daughter also married into money and wedding reception was at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

The pattaya guy who got into a fight with the security guards are the only Indian people alot on here see. So base their opinions on that. Those indians aren't the target of TAT.

I agree but guys I know are 2nd or 3rd generation indians who live in London. They all have been here with their families.   The TAT target are the well off indians who will fly in to one of the islands get the whole wedding package.

They are the only tourists who can manage without pavements! Cos  they aren't going to be ready.

What castes are allowed to travel to Thailand?

Are the lower castes and untouchables allowed or it is reserved for the higher castes only?
