"Drunk" Brit pensioner, 70, reverses into Thais killing one injuring one - then damages 4 vehicles before overturning

Daily News and many other Thai media reported on an appalling incident on the beach front at Ban Phe, Rayong, yesterday evening in which an apparently drunk British man in a pick-up killed and injured people before driving off and damaging four vehicles before overturning.

 

Pol Capt Natthawat of the Phe Rayong police on the eastern seaboard was alerted to the incident yesterday evening and went with rescue services to the area near the Lotus store on the beach front road - Suan Son to Ban Phe Road - where they found an overturned four door pick-up.

 

Inside was an apparently drunk Brtish man trapped in the driver's seat.

 

Stephen P., 70, was given first aid.

A police patrol nearby was giving CPR. But dead at the scene was Niran Pramuan, 53, and severly injured was 32 year old Chanasak. They were taken to Rayong Hospital.

 

Witnesses reported seeing the foreigner reverse at high speed into the two men crushing them up against a lamppost.

 

The driver then raced off colliding with two cars and two motorcycles before ending up on its side. 

 

Witnesses said that the British man lived locally and was a habitual drunkard who would drive in the wrong lane and that local people were fed up with his behavior.

 

He was kept in custody while his injuries were treated as police prepared a breath test and for his subsequent prosecution. 

 

More on this as we hear of it.

All people who are high or drunk should be punished extra harsh when getting into accidents. This is unacceptable. First hitting people then fleeying.. being drunk. I would not want to be him at his age jail could mean his end. Not that i mind if the things stated in this article are factual.

When drunk people have a short fuse. That might have something to do with it. But it would be so bad if this was intentional. I mean he could not be that stupid to do something like that on purpose and thinking to get away with it.

Actually, the reasons why are long standing prejudice, jealousy, hatred that some of their women marry them, insecurity, and a hatred from higher ups that western ways will take over and the people will revolt, wanting to live with more freedom. This is news because it's a foreigner, and doesn't take away the fact that there are an average of 65 deaths daily on the roads that are attributed to drunk, incompetent drivers and the lack of enforcement of laws on the books.

The Brit must have backed up hard into the signpost.  The pickup's tail gate and bumper are clearly bent in from the crash.

This is wrong...  Foreigners are extremely well received in Thailand. 

 

In tourist area’s where there are plenty of tourists behaving poorly there maybe an element of ’tarred by the same brush’... however, for the most part Thai’s do not judge us all by the actions of a despicable few.

 

IF you’re walking around drunk in the day time with a hooker on your arm etc you going to be judge. 

IF you’re walking around and behaving perfectly normally, you’re going to be welcomed.

 

This whole idea that ‘foreigners are not liked or welcomed in Thailand’ are the musings of people who are likely to either feel unwelcome or actually find themselves unwelcome and disliked anywhere they go - Thailand is not the denominator, they are. 

 

 

In this case the British man was apparently a burden on society, his drink driving behaviour despicable. 

Thankfully, Thai’s are not so silly enough to think all foreigners are the same.

IF he was a respectable member of the local community these would not be the words used to describe him.... 

 

Then there is the ‘raced off....’ part... not the behaviour of a likeable or decent character.

Or just drunk and foot on the wrong pedal...   panicked thinking he’s on the brake, broke harder when really he was on the accelerator...    

 

We see this same thing with the cars that fly out of multi-story car-parks !!

a bit late,  the locals knew about his continuous drunk driving, if he had been taken off the road sooner a life might have saved, seems nobody had a problem up until now.

drunk driving is widespread and is a huge problem here, until the police start doing their job it will continue, of course they don't want too because they do it too

Would this Brit have done the same in the UK?  Seems many here choose to drink drive because 'everyone' does it.  But don't consider potential consequences. 

Running over people then driving off is the epitomy of being a complete lowlife.  Drunken fool.  Prison, huge fines, massive compensation claims and deportation.
