Patong – A Canadian man who was allegedly attacked by a group of five men in Patong refused to pay for his food and drinks at a restaurant before the incident, according to the restaurant owner, who tells a very different story than the tourist.

The Patong Police told the Phuket Express this afternoon (February 13th) that a restaurant owner near Patong Beach, identified publicly only as Mrs. Tuenjai, and three of her staff members met with police to give their version of events.

Mrs. Tuenjai told police that the Canadian man refused to pay his bill, was heavily intoxicated, and shoved her staff. He also allegedly challenged staffers to fight him, which is when the attack that the Canadian man claimed was unprovoked began.

Two versions.... who should we believe.

Canada is a land of immigrants, mostly, so just saying that not all Canadians are

good people. Some very drunk tourists can be very hot headed and do stupid

stuff that they would not do sober. I would believe the staff in this situation.

I also have witnessed other drunk tourists acting like this drunk Canadian.

Just saying.

So could it have been 5 restaurant workers who robbed him of 50k for the bill with a bonus Rolex? I see the police inquiry faltering unless someone mentions insurance scam ????

Are you saying immigrants are bad people?

That's some restaurant bill 55,000baht!!! I lean more  to the tourists story. Thailand has a reputation of padding bills, ripping people off as with security or groups of Thai men beating foreign tourists men and women to an inch of their lives. Of course the restaurant will have a different story and security cameras will be broken.

When I was travelling through Europe a lot of Americans I travelled with/came into contact with tried to pass themselves off as Canadians because yanks had such a bad name.

Just saying ????

Even diplomats do it.

However we all have stupid arrogant people that once in awhile we let out of the country.

I tend to believe the restaurant. Whether the bill was padded or not you still have to pay or negotiate.

True = somewhere in the middle!

Soon we will hear different stories from 3 witnesses too. After that, it will be impossible to work out how it really was.

I bet he said "Sorry"

The ones whos version is backed up by CCTV (if available). Otherwise its hard to know.

Like MarcusL said, probably somewhere in the middle.

I don't recall ever seeing an item on a menu that costs a 50,000 baht rolex watch, bag of 5,000 baht cash, and getting beaten up.

Yeah, right. Show me the bill you got from the last restaurant you ate at and paid in cash. Exactly.

What does that mean?

Real Canadians are all good people and those who immigrated to Canada are bad people? Or what?

It seems cameras are everywhere these days.

But then it seems many of them "fail" to record - at least at certain moments...

I'd refuse to pay a 50,000bht restaurant bill as well!

Sounds like a Karaoke scam beating.

So he meant that the descendant of an immigrant and a true canadian is half bad people ?

Think he meant the designation "Canadian" means almost nothing anymore.  And hasn't for many years.

Perhaps there is something in the drink, and its not a national trait? Just saying.

Did she reveal where he shoved it or is she confusing this with a police probe?

IMHO best advice is don't get sloppy drunk in Thailand.

I don't know if this guy was very drunk or not, but many of these stories start with this premise.

If you are noticeably drunk bad guys are more likely to think they can cheat you and you won't notice.

Also, it seems that drunks are more likely to erroneously think they have been cheated and cause a ruckus.

Cannot pay his food bill, once the polite Canadian apologizes deport him. Food bill is 5-10 times more where he's headed.........

You think a Canadian restaurant could beat a food bill of 55,000bht?

That's over $2,000CAN.

Too much booze, tends to not lead to anything positive! Especially in Thailand

just saying!

????????????‍♂️

but again, why beat the <deleted> out of him?

couldn’t they just apprehend him and call police?

fact is they thrive on beating foreigners.
