Is there a way to pay using phone via QR codes in 7-11s with local bank accounts?

Hi,

Basically now I have local Thai bank accounts so it helped me a lot with paying bills but can I also pay by scan in 7-11s for example? When I asked they said no, but not sure what options are available. I am trying to be cashless and ideally don't have to carry card also. I noticed even Bolt now allows bank accounts or even credit card.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Easy, just pull out your phone and say "Scan", they'll understand.

Yep that works in 7/11, but AFAIK normal QR code scan with Thai Banking Apps doesn’t as they don’t accept that. Why? No idea.

They understand and will tell you it won't work. Not with the banking apps

I use my bank's app (Bangkok Bank) all the time, never had a problem.

Because the #1 billionaire clan doesn't want to share a Baht with other businesses,

All under one roof.

You might remember when years ago they threw out 12call/AIS the last remaining rival in mobile business. No more topup at 7/11.

Can you explain how that should work?

For the banking apps, the payee has to generate a QR with the amount and details of payee. This QR code is then scanned with the banking app. Definitely not done at 7/11.

Exactly opposite at 7/11: you generate a QR code on your device/app which then is scanned by the 7/11 clerk. Your QR code basically says this is my "account"/"wallet". After 7/11 clerk has scanned the QR you confirm (from what I observe, not from own experience).

711 is the only place I don't shop, because of this reason!

They don't accept my Bangkok Bank card, nor can I scan for payment using my phone app!

But, Family Mart, Big C, Lotus, etc. etc. etc. ALL willingly and happily accept any of my methods of payment!

The GF uses her 711 app, but when I tried to install that on my phone, guess what?  Yes, rejected again, because I don't have a Thai ID!

In any case, now that Move Forward has suggested to boycott businesses run by scoundrels against Pita, I am HAPPY to boycott 711 and give my business to their competitors!  555

Opps, I stand corrected, to pay at 7/11 need to either use the 7/11 app or True Money.

I use my Bangkok Bank app to pay everywhere else.

Can a foreigner with a pink Thai ID card put money on the 7-11 app?

I started the True Money app, but couldn't be bothered after they requested I photo every page of every document and also type all the info into every address box etc.

Yes, that's the only option (credit card also is acceptable, I believe).  Coincidentally, I asked them again today just in case their policy had changed since I last asked a few months ago.

At 7/11?

He doesn't, unless they've put in a special arrangement just for him.

Why not use the app of your cellular provider? In my ais app I go to TOPUP and it connects to my bank app. Take a a couple of seconds.

I'm sure CP will be devastated with the hit their bottom line will take and their rivals will be popping the champagne corks.

The OP's not asking about how to pay for his phone credit at 7-11!

I'm sorry I can't help the OP, but I can confirm 7-Eleven accepts credit cards.

My guess (repeat guess) is that their business model is to ensure nothing reduces total revenues / total margin.

If you/I use Kplus or a similar app then there are fees, perhaps small but over a day, a month, a year the total loss because of bank fees is quite large.

On the other hand I've heard before 7/11 do accept some cards, and that would mean paying merchant fee or similar.

So ?

Every day on my way to work I stop at the 7.

Every day I get stuck behind some mong fumbling with their phone to pay for their purchases.

I don't go everyday but at Bic C I only line up behind  Thais food shopping they appear to prefer use mobile apps and credit cards always a smooth transaction.

I avoid the mong also. Usually in a Chang vest pfaffing about with the dirty notes from a bar and dropping small change sometimes appearing drunk. Likely to to protest suddenly they were overcharged! 「"arai na"?」

Result  queue even further delayed. Cash should be banned.

It's not just the notes that are dirty, shopping trolleys, items shelved for sale etc., supermarkets are a petri dish.

Just need to wash your hands regularly.

If you can't fathom why 7-11 don't accept regular PromptPay QR codes,

both 7-11 and True which does True Money are under the CP group
