Rampant Street Racing Alarms Pattaya Residents

Late on September 29, tranquillity was a distant memory for the residents of Nong Pla Lai, a serene locality in Pattaya, overrun by the thunderous roars of motorcycles.

An army of teenagers, aged 14-20, swarmed the national highway No. 36, their modified bikes screaming through the silence of the night, reported Daily News.

This display of untethered youthful exuberance, not unlike scenes from complex urban environments around the world, transforms the roads into an unofficial racetrack.

These audacious young people, fueled by an unyielding "spirit of rebellion", and the thrill of speed, have turned the peaceful streets of Pattaya into their nocturnal playground.

Local authorities, despite their efforts, grapple with this escalating menace. Each police intervention is met with temporary dispersal; the young racers scatter, only to regroup and reignite their defiant displays.

Residents, left to bear the brunt of the clamor, voice their exasperation, their pleas for peace echoing through the night.

Amidst the complexity of containment and the relentless spirit of the racers, an unsettling atmosphere permeates the air. Each night, as engines roar to life, Pattaya's serene aura retreats, surrendering to the overpowering clamour of rebellion and the unwavering energy of youth.

The community’s quest for a lasting resolution continues, a silent plea amidst the overpowering roar of defiant exuberance.

  • A proper police force would employ a pincer movement.  Let 'em race then seize the bikes and run a steamroller over them.  A more permanent solution than temporary dispersal.

  • A firm head nod and promise to do something.

  • The weirdos that go 2-up on little scooters with their male friend and not a girl in sight?

Why are they alarmed, they should be well used to it at this stage.

In the center, it seems to be more of the young punk middle east kids. Surprised there are not more accidents as they seem very inexperienced and lack proper control of their bikes.

It looks like a few simple police barricades set up across the lanes and manned with 2 police each every night would do it. Put perhaps difficult to take down after their bottle of whisky?

Maybe open up BIRA at night so they can use a real race track?

What 'efforts' are those then?

Spike strips are the answer, but the calamitous plod would probably end up disabling their own vehicles!

Water cannons shooting indelible blue ink.  Then arrest everyone that shows up in class the next day looking like a Smurf.

It may only be me but I am finding news reports seemingly written with AI "inspiration" more and more irritating to read.

I can't read Thai but is the report an accurate translation of the original?

No thrill for them to do it legally! Little boys displaying their manhood!

This is what happens when there is next to zero enforcement of laws. Until everyone is led to believe that there are actually consequences for their actions it will continue.

Why can't the cops set up checkpoint/roadblocks on the highway and pull these morons over and possible arrest a few?

They set up check point elsewhere to get pull over foreigners?

"Pattaya" Residents upset by noise coming from a highway......LOL !

Aren't the police supposed to do something to stop this?

Should be fairly easy even for the RTP, set up a few roadblocks and seize the bikes? Or is too much like hard work, or perhaps there's no money in it, who knows?

Cord off the road at both ends, impound all the vehicles and release them against a fine of THB 10'000 - or destroy them on site. Done so in other countries with lasting effect - surprise, surprise ????

Lazy police are rarely proactive at all. Especially after sunset!

Maybe you’d add the odd minefield and machine gun nest too?

Nah.  I'm just sticking to tried and proven methods.  They've already used the blue water cannons on protestors.  Nobody seemed the worse for wear.

They probably still have the equipment sitting idle, primed and ready for the next protest.  That'll save them money over mines and bullets.

I can't imagine a Thai cop bothering to do anything (regarding enforcement) physical after the sun sets if it doesn't include a bribe.

Forget the whiskey! This is happening AFTER 5pm when the RTP retire to relax from another arduous day of Protecting and Serving. ????

And make some money.

Hwy 36 is clear enough to be a racetrack in the wee hours.. that is surprising, can't get on the damned road at 5.30pm, it is so busy!

I guess the locals have gotta put some earplugs in before they go to bed.

I guess it was all happening down at the South-East end near the Pong Interchange, as I heard nothing at my end of 36.

Is it arabs or locals causing it?
