Emergency responders were notified of the accident at 4:30 P.M. on Tuesday (December 19th) at an intersection near the Tesco Lotus Samkong.

They arrived at the scene to find the foreign motorbike rider. He had sustained severe injuries and he was rushed to a nearby hospital. the rider, (plus others) had stopped about 2metres in front of the white line associated with the intersection (on the pedestrian crossing), then rolled forward another 2+ metres before the lights turned green..he had no hope!

Confusing. Did the Ukranian man crash his bike into the taxi, did the bike crash itself into the taxi or did the taxi crash into the bike?

Taxi ran a red light coming from the right. Ukranian never looked, probably watching for the green light, then floored it.

The motorcyclist moved before the light turned green but the taxi driver almost certainly ran a red light.

I have learned to look both ways when the light turns green because jumping red lights is very common here.

They are always in such a hurry to....go to sleep.

Thanks. My eyesight is not too good. I looked at the video again in a darkened room and now see the incident.

Taxi to blame.

Look right, look left, and look right again......As you rightly say, pounded into us, and I for one am glad it was.

Not here in Thailand....it's look right, left, then right again.

All those who understand the culture in this land, they were all waiting, and all survived. They understand the lack of enforcement of traffic laws here, combined with the selfishness of the locals who will try to save some seconds...

The locals here understand that, because that is what they want, as everybody here will want to avoid the frustration of having to wait a minute because they just missed a green light by a few seconds. That is what the people want here, and that is why traffic laws are not enforced.

So they wait some 5 seconds or more before they go through a green light, because they also do not like that frustration when it happens to them. It is a social agreement, this Ukrainian man was unaware of that so it appears....

If you look at the video you can also see the motor bike rider lift his left hand off of the handlebars  ... looks like he was waving to someone when he should have been checking all around him... and that taxi looked to be going very rapidly....  two eejits trying to occupy the same bit of road at the same time..... and this is the result... oh well

respectively disagree. in my viewmotorcyclist moved before the green light but was hit when light green. wonder what speed somchai was doing when running thru red light and IMHO is more to blame. interesting how BIB adjudicates. hope motorcyclist can survive and fully recover.
