A British man was arrested in Bangkok on Saturday (Feb 3) charged with buying sex from underage girls in Hua Hin, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has announced.

 

The 35 year old man, identified as Mr James, was arrested on Yen Akat Road in the Sathon district by officers from the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD).

 

The officers were acting on arrest warrant number 416/2567 issued by the Criminal Court on Jan 19, said ATPD commander Pol Maj Gen Sarut Kwaengsopha.

 

The arrest was a continuation of an investigation which started in August 2023 when police officers arrested two women for committing the offense of “conspiracy by agreement of two or more persons to commit human trafficking” by secretly employing children under 18 years of age at a bar in Hua Hin.

Strangely, nobody so far demanding an end to visa exempt for all Brits like they're demanding on the thread about the Russian case.

Case thrown out of court due to clean hands.  The premises and women had been inspected, taxed and okayed by the Thai government.

 

Clean hands is a doctrine that states that a party seeking relief in a court of law must have acted in good faith and without any wrongdoing themselves. Essentially, it means that a person cannot ask the court for help or protection if they have engaged in unethical or illegal behavior related to the matter at hand.

 

Mr. James you are due an apology and are free to go.

The OP and the site it links to only mention Brit, so he could be Scottish, English or Welsh.

 

I'll agree that he's unlikely to be Scottish though as the illegal sex did involve another human 😉

If you are a visitor and not a regular at the bar scene, how would you know a girl is underage?

So you pop into a bar for a drink, have a few, then expected to know if a girl (first of all, is a girl, then is under or over 18 years old [if that is the age].

I was in Manilla staying at this hotel and 2 young Americans were having a great time, then I didn't see them for about a week, then They came in one morning and quickly left.

Seems they met some girls at the local Mac cafe.

2 am in the morning so said non-uniform, gun toting undercover police took them out of the hotel and kept them for ransom because the girls from the Mac cafe were underage.

They had to withdraw money from their ATM for the police then off to the airport.

You can't spot a 16yo from a 26yo? Thai women look 10% younger than their age so the 16yos would look 14yo.

 

 

What is going to happen to the bar owner? Slap on the wrist or jail time?

He was in his 30s I think. If you're a tourist, not been here long,  how can you tell a 20 odd year old girl from an under 18 year old girl?

What about if you were a young tourist and not been here long?
