Crime Ayutthaya Rescue Worker Shot Dead on Motorcycle
Picture courtesy of Daily News A 24-year-old rescue worker from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Rescue Association was shot dead while riding his motorcycle in Ban Phraek district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, on 11 September. The victim, identified as Mr. Sarayut Nokchan, known as “Keng,” was found lying on the roadside next to his blue Honda Wave motorcycle. Police believe the attacker approached in a vehicle, spoke briefly with him and then fired at close range. Police from Ban Phraek Station were alerted to the incident by Pol Lt Piyapong Lertsreephet, Deputy Inspector of Investigation. Officers arrived at the scene on a dark and isolated road in Moo 5, Khlong Noi subdistrict, along with medical staff and rescue foundation personnel. Sarayut was found with two gunshot wounds, one to the right side of his neck and one to the left chest. Investigators confirmed that the victim was a volunteer with Ayutthaya Ruamjai Rescue, operating in the Ban Phraek area under the call sign 318. His motorcycle remained parked upright on the road near the body. The discovery has shocked the local rescue community, where he was known for his volunteer work. Sarayut’s older brother, Mr. Buncha Nokchan, aged 38, also a rescue worker with a different foundation, gave an emotional statement. He said that on the morning of the incident his brother had told him, “I’m about to get a job, please look after mum,” a remark that raised his concern. He later learned he would have to collect his own brother’s body from the crime scene. Pol Col Chana Theerasanyanon, Superintendent of Ban Phraek Police Station, said an investigation was under way. Initial assessments suggest the gunman may have parked nearby, engaged the victim in conversation and then fired at close range. The motive for the killing remains unclear and officers are now gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Forensic officers photographed the scene and collected evidence before transferring the victim’s body to the Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani for post-mortem examination. Police have confirmed that identifying the attacker and establishing the motive are their top priorities. Key Takeaways • Rescue worker Sarayut Nokchan, 24, was shot dead on his motorcycle in Ban Phraek on 11 September. • Police believe the attacker engaged him briefly before firing at close range. • Investigations are ongoing, with the victim’s body sent for forensic examination in Pathum Thani.
