He cleared immigration telling them he was going to Singapore.

Thai immigration or the junta-aligned court might have denied departure for Dubai, citing his parole or legal risks, whereas Singapore (a neutral medical hub) had a higher chance of approval.

In other words he deliberately told lies to the BKK immigration people re his destination. Perhaps an offense?

I read that first of all he said he was going to Hua Hin.

Perhaps immigration then asked him why he was carrying his passport.

I don't follow Thai politics much, so unsure what's gone on.

Medical check-up in Singapore ?  it would not make Thailand credible as a serious destination for "medical touris"

Following the completion of the prime ministerial vote, former PM Thaksin Shinawatra called key Pheu Thai Party members directly from Dubai to thank them for their votes for Chaikasem, stating that he will definitely return to Thailand on Monday.

Not a mention of it on BBC's Asia webpage.

Richard Head must be sulking in a corner since his hero did a runner.

I think you mean Jonathan Head

A message from former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's X account made at around 3am on Friday, September 5, as to why to flew to Dubai instead of Singapore. And why his Bombardier Global 7500 jet was circling over the Andaman sea for a while. Translation: --- Today, I intended to travel to Singapore for a health check-up with a doctor who had previously cared for me while I was abroad. Thai immigration delayed me for almost two hours, even though I had won the case that prevented me from traveling internationally and now have the same right to travel as any other Thai citizen. While en route, the pilot informed me that the long delay caused by immigration would make the plane unable to land in time at Singapore's Seletar Airport, which is used for private jets. This is because the airport is only open until 10 p.m. (Singapore time is one hour ahead of Thailand). Since I couldn't land in Singapore, I decided to have the pilot change plans and fly to Dubai. In Dubai, I have a bone and lung specialist whom I have been seeing regularly for a long time, and I also had the opportunity to visit a friend whom I haven't seen in over two years. While waiting for permission from Dubai Airport, the pilot had to circle for a while until clearance was received, and then we turned to fly toward Dubai. I plan to return to Thailand no later than the 8th so that I can go to court in person on September 9th.

Two questions:

1.  Why couldn't his plane have landed at Changi if Seletar was closed?

2.  How come the plane had enough fuel to fly to Dubai, including two holding patterns along the way?

Richard = Dick.

Johnathon in this case is a Dick Head.

Do try and spell his name correctly.  It's Jonathan, not Johnathon.

He must have been fueled up for a SNG - DXB diversion including a hold before they left DMK. They knew about DXB before they were even airborne. Or do private jets always fly fully tanked for short hops like DMKSIN?

Thaksin has phoned his MPs saying he definitely will return on Monday.

He either knows Tuesday's result in advance or he has a credible excuse up his sleeve if he doesn't come back on Monday ( Dubai doctors forbade travel to Thailand for 5 years, etc ).

Do you realise how short 500 nm (nanometres) are?

I don't think they do but whoever writes the "scripts" to create the visuals is really bad at it.

Well trained and loyal sources close to him assert that it's solely for health reasons and he will definitely be returning to Thailand to face the full force of the naive law.

Has he done another Runner.....to ensure his sister always has company in Dubai since she won't be coming back at this point in time....

There is, but he's not welcome back at the moment - caused too many head-aches last time he "used" them.

Maybe he doesn't get along with his ex-wife, but she is by far the largest shareholder in a very well-equipped private hospital in Bangkok. Even his own sister went there while she was PM, if I recall correctly.

While Seletar is where most will go, Changi can also handle private jets. You would think an ex-PM would be able to land there 24/7, so it's a fair question that reporters should also be asking.

I remember back in 2008, a lot of news outlets were waiting for him to return from the Olympics in time for his court appearance. Some had Beijing Airport staked out looking for any sign of him boarding a flight.

Last time he flew to singapore he sold off shares in ais  for lots of baht. Also he said thai doctors were gods and they healed him  better than elsewhere. Now his daughter in trouble  he is off to singapore,This family or man is so corrupt but they get away with it,this is thailand  and thakisim in the back room again. His private jet just needed a run after sitting for so long too

He was going to have it done in the police hospital where he was previously resurrected from death's door,

but his specialist doctors weren't available at the moment as they were too busy arranging his onward flights

from Singapore to Dubai and his temporary accommodation there.

Sending thoughts and prayers.

hope all is well P'Thaksin.

It's not that complicated really now is it?

The doctors that treated him before he could come back to Thailand are in Dubai. The doctors that treated him over 6 months for the life threatening conditions that the doctors in Dubai hadn't noticed are in Thailand at the police hospital. So he needed to go to Singapore.

He could have gone to Cambodia where his medical conditions were completely cured by going to a birthday party but Thaksin and the Cambodian leaders have had a bit of a tiff recently.

I would have thought even someone with a limited intelligence , as we are are talking about aircraft, would know what 'nautical mile' is?
