BANGKOK - Former deputy police chief Surachate Hakparn, known as 'Big Joke,' accused of defamation after calling Thai police a "criminal organisation."

Pol Lt Gen Trairong Phiewphan, assistant national police chief, announced that Surachate Hakparn, the ex-deputy police chief, will be sued for defamation. Hakparn allegedly called the police force "the largest criminal organisation" during a media interview. The police have condemned the statement, claiming it is both unfair and misleading.

The controversy intensified when four police organisations, including the RTP Association and the retired police officers' club, petitioned the national police chief, Pol. Gen. Kittharath Punpetch, for an urgent inquiry into these accusations. They submitted a joint letter, expressing their concern about comments supposedly distorting facts and harming the police's reputation. The move reflects the serious attempt to protect the integrity of the Royal Thai Police (RTP).

Comments on police involvement in online gambling and scam operations prompted Hakparn's allegations. Activist Atchariya Ruangrattanapong, alongside Hakparn, accused some officers of being part of these illicit activities. Consequently, the police organisations urged an independent investigation to either substantiate or refute these statements, stressing that guilty individuals should face justice without undue protection, according to the Bangkok Post.

Pol Gen Surachate's past involvement surfaced, as he was previously dismissed due to alleged connections with an online gambling network. The organisation now demands that he provide any evidence he claims he possesses. They argue that as a former senior officer, it’s his duty to aid in any official investigations to preserve trust in the police force.

Key Takeaways:

  • Surachate Hakparn faces defamation suit for calling Thai police a "criminal organisation."
  • Four police groups demand investigation into allegations harming the police's image.
  • Calls for evidence from Hakparn linked to claims on illegal activities and past dismissal.

No.

He's a bad guy resentful at the other bad guys for maneuvering him out.

Maneuvered him out because he was getting ahead of the rest of the pack in terms of PPP (Popular Public Profile).

Same basic issue in every area/aspect/level of "governance" in Thailand.

If some defamation suit happens, should be a jury trial. Is there anyone in Thailand who doesn't think the cops are a criminal organization? Easy verdict

Truth hurts, that's why Thailand has the defamation law.

More bullet holes coming up in his vehicle. Next time he might be sitting in it

The RED BULL Dynasty will vouch for the honesty and integrity of the RTP.

Remember all the media reports about this guy? Turns out he paid reporters 10,000 Baht to write about him. As revealed on September 27, 2023.

I am rooting for the following: No more police officers with cute nicknames!

And perhaps a bit more integrity in the media business in Thailand…

If the shoe fits...

This is totally unfair and if Ferrari Joe was alive today he would say the same you can ask other ex chiefs roller Ron or lambo Liam all above board

He is absolutely correct in calling the police a criminal organization, he saw it from the inside, the only difference is the fact that he was never Mr. Clean he was never Mr. Straight, and he engaged in the corruption just like the other guys.

You can't become the national deputy director of the RTP without doing so. It just can't happen, ever. What he's done with his fortune and where he is hiding it, few people know, and it's just sour grapes at this point, the man is a loser, and he's always been a major publicity hog.

I saw the defamation suit coming three days ago, this will be great.

You are watching Thailand implode, slowly

  • Popular Post

If they go through with the defamation charge they may find themselves in a spot of bother if the court asks 'prove it' and he does.

I don't know but if he was looking for a job I'd hire him and a flash, people with his knowledge and connections

will become very, very handy, even if he sit in an office doing nothing all day.
