Pattaya is grinding to a halt

Featured Replies

They need to adopt a congestion zone or operate more pedestraian free zones.

I was sittiing in Soi Bukhao the other week, open air bar, and the sheer amount of traffic infront of me, the pollution, vehicles, noise from bikes, then compound it off having to walk in that meant a disgusting experience. Never again

You think the foreign tourists cause the traffic jams?

why would planes from Dubai stop coming to Thailand?

I would think with the current situation people in Dubai that are capable might like to take a nice little safe vacation in Thailand.

What a great idea. A nice safe flight! I'm sure there are lots of good deals on tickets available.

Just turn the corner into a side Soi and it's a different world, WTF u looking at in Soi Buket:??

Pattaya is flooded with Indians -completely taken over for all practical purposes. The beaches suck. It's a hell hole. Why would anyone want to there?

Bangkok full of tourists waiting for flights , but less and less arrivals. It will empty soon enough over next 2 weeks. Except for those lovely Chinese and Russians.

Absolutely ridiculous. It was about an hour from South Pattaya Rd to Central Festival early afternoon on second Rd. I kept expecting to see/pass some major road works. But it was all just from cars turning into the Central parking. What's wrong with the malls in Bangkok? And what happened to Bang San Beach for Thais on weekends ? Just going to let the Thais and their cars have it on weekends. Unlike them I have better things to do .

no bus to bang san so a definitel no to a lot of thais

Good to hear that Pattaya is booming! Maybe its decline has been grossly exaggerated.

I think that is a yes and no.

Appears to me that Pattaya is being visited a lot more by Thais than it used to be. I was there over NY and it was absolutely mobbed that night, following morning there was severe congestion going back up to the main road.

Tourists don't contribute to traffic congestion in the same way.

I avoid Buakhao like the plague. Making it one way can't come soon enough. It will still be a mess but that should improve things somewhat.

Think you mean Bang Saen beach, almost impossible to park there on weekend or holiday.

I dread it when they open the 10,000 + new condos along 2nd Road, Thappraya Rd the traffic will be murder. Better get used to walking.

Amen to that. But I like to walk....

Been here 20+ years, passed soooo many condo projects with big sign "EIA Approved!"... Just what part of the 'environmental impact' is 'assessed'? Methinks traffic impact is never included, as even important things like water/sewage are glossed over.

This Savannah can only support so many termite mounds.

Well the Indians do apparently, or are they excluded from the 'anyone' group?

Pattaya is regularly in the top 20 visited cities in the World list compiled by Mastercard, along with Bangkok and Phuket. Obviously, Pattaya is getting plenty of visitors, from many different countries, as well as Thai domestic visitors.

Indeed- it is sad that one minority seems to be getting very unpopular

They were "unpopular" 15 years and more ago. It is not a recent phenomenon

All the traffic won't be helping the NO2 levels (top image). The overall Air Quality Index is poor, too (bottom image).
