Thailand confirms 120 new coronavirus cases, 2 more deaths

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand confirmed 120 new coronavirus cases and two more deaths on Wednesday, said a spokesman of the government's Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration.

 

The new figures brought the total number of infections in the Southeast Asian country to 1,771 and 12 fatalities.

 

The two new deaths included a 79-year-old Thai man from a southern province who attended a wedding in Malaysia in early March and a 58-year-old businessman who returned from England last month, spokesman Taweesin Wisanuyothin said.

Approx 120 new cases every day. You wonder if this reported linear increase is because the number of tests that can be carried out is limited to a very low number. You would think there should be some exponential increase by now. 

Like Big Brother China they will lie through their back teeth about numbers and we will never know the real numbers !

It is dropping, I assume Thailand will have around 100 tmr.

Such unusually steady and low numbers hardly seem to justify the measures the country is going through. Should things get tightened further it would strongly suggest that these are indeed just the tip of the iceberg, the whole of which can no longer be concealed. 

Remember back in the good ol' days when you could cough and say bull sheet at the same time ???

Two more patients die as 120 new Covid-19 cases confirmed

Thailand’s total number of Covid-19 patients rose to 1,771 with 120 new cases confirmed over a 24-hour period and two patients dying, Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Wednesday (April 1).

 

The cases can be divided into three groups.

 

The first group of 51 are connected to cluster cases -- one person had attended a boxing event in a stadium, 11 had worked and been to entertainment venues, one had attended a religious ceremony in Malaysia and 38 had had close contact with others previously confirmed as infected.

 

The second group comprised 39 people of whom 23 had just returned from overseas (six Thais and two foreigners from travelling and 16 after attending a religious ceremony in Indonesia), 14 were working in crowded areas or close to foreigners, and one medical staff.

 

The last group of 30 are being investigated on the source of the infection.

 

A 79-year-old man who also had diabetes and chronic kidney disease, died. He contracted the virus after attending a wedding in Malaysia. Another was a 58-year-old businessman who had returned from England.

 

Bangkok had the most number of cases at 43; folliwed by Samut Prakarn 23; Phuket 11; Krabi, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Buriram, Songkhla, and Chonburi (two each); Chachoengsao, Nakhon Pathom, Si Sa Ket, Samut Sakhon, Saraburi, Nong Bua Lamphun, and Ubon Ratchathani (one each) while 24 are under investigation.

 

As of April 1, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 1771-- 1,429 are under treatment, of whom 23 are in a critical condition, 342 have recovered and been discharged, and there have been 12 deaths.

 

Of the total cases, 1,500 are Thais and 271 foreigners.

 

Globally, there are more than 850,000 confirmed cases and around 42,000 deaths.

It would be nice to know that information. I would like to know the infection rate. In Australia, only a few percent are positive for coronavirus / 100 of tests conducted, even though they only test suspected cases, as they do here. You can get a test in Thailand, but will have to pay if you are not on the suspect list. 

Just listening to Virgin Radio news, they said that Thailand had rolled out a 15 minute CV19 check using a droplet of blood. If it's that simple, then the Govt. has no excuse for having more test centers around the country...

I Call BS. Numbers only make sense if adequate testing isnt being done. Its not possible to have numbers like this and why the constant blame of foreigners. Its chinese, doesnt matter how much these fools lie only 50% or so of the thais will believe them.

Numbers looking good, but is it too soon to start eating some of my frozen food stock pile?

It doesn't sound too bad, but just remember that even if we stay at this lowis level of new infections, then by the end of the month Thailand will still have recorded over 5,000 cases, all of them hospitalised as I understand the way they check for the presence of Covid-19. I wonder if the health system here can cope with so many cases, especially the significant fraction requiring intensive care and breathing assistance?

They have a huge backlog of tests that have not been done. I believe they test a max of 700+ cases a day. So they are not testing that much yet. 

Yes not enough data to make any blanket statement as we have no insight as to how many people have been tested , are being tested and will be tested and a what rate of testing etc, etc and it's not much different different in places like the USA , just larger numbers but the same deficiencies and ineptness. What's the number of negative test results ? Just wunnerin...

The reported number of deaths in China does look incredibly low compared to other countries given that it was the original epicenter of the CV-19 outbreak.. Italy, Spain, US, France has more deaths than China.

Not one Thai i have come across blames us ,the govt might but the people dont ,they know its come from China, theydont believe the govt bull

My 15 year old almost blind partially deaf Shiitsu does not believe the figures accurately reflect the current state of affairs.

It probably reflects the exodus after they closed off Bangkok (geographical progression), the explosion is to come soon and will affect the whole country at once. 

Just like in the US. The more tests made, the more infections found. We have only hit the tip of the iceberg on this little puppy!

Bang on, E.g. on the 27th/26th, the day with 99 cases, only 303 tests were completed.

The wifes daughter is back from Mueang Phitsanulok as the school she works at is closed.  Been swanning about here and there, visiting the grannies and staying here with the wifes mum, Wifey and I.  Mum's 74, I am 67 and Wifey is 47.  We will be up a well known creek if the rotten little <deleted> has it and gives it to us.  How many months do you get in LOS for justifiable homicide?  ????

Rather typical that the reported deaths have both been/come from overseas.

Yet they boast of being able to do 10,000 tests per day which is supposed to make people feel better but backfires because they only test about 700 and people left wondering about Julius Sumner Miller's favourite question Why Is It So?
