Thai govt and Immigration confirm second visa amnesty - no need to do 90 day reports or extend visas

The Thai government’s PR department and the Immigration Bureau on Wednesday morning confirmed the details of the second visa amnesty for foreigners.

The first visa amnesty was announced on April 7 in order to help prevent long queues forming at immigration offices during the COVID-19 pandemic,  allowing foreigners to stay in the kingdom until April 30.

On Tuesday, it was announced the amnesty would be extended by a further three months, allowing foreigners to remain in Thailand until July 31 without having to apply for another extension.

On Wednesday morning, the Thai government’s PR department confirmed on its website the amnesty had been extended.

The Immigration Bureau also confirmed on social media that foreigners in Thailand do not need to extend their visas or carry out 90 day reports between now and July 31.

Overstay fees are also waived during this time.

During the amnesty period, Immigration offices in Thailand will still be open.

Since the amnesty was first announced, Thaivisa has received multiple reports from expats who took advantage of the near empty immigration offices to apply for extensions of stay based on marriage or retirement, with the whole process taking much less time than usual.

  • Unfortunately not all Imm offices are complying with this.   Mine continues to require 90 day reports, refuses to accept them online and demands a bribe to submit them in person.

So on Aug the first do we all have to go and get our ninety day?

Not doing the 90 day report is more likely to create problems in the future than not at some offices.

Chiang Mai in full swing with drive in etc. We will do ours when due.

This news only applies to tourists not those who are on extension of stay due to work or family. Non b holders are not out of the woods yet.

Great news.

Agents might not agree, since many use them also for 90d report.

If you don't have permanent residency you are a foreigner with temporary stay.

OMG That is quite shocking

the boss in that office might find himself in hot water over that with a possible inactive post for his efforts and stupidity

Can I just dispel that...prosessing of my Extension of Stay based on Retirement yesterday at Chaeng Wattana took as long as usual, (yesterday). Others have said the same. There may be less applicants, but the process is taking as long, or in effect, longer.

No

They will announce before July 31st when you should do them.

As I have written before I suspect they may say that your first report will be due 90 days from the report that was skiped was due.

So, to summarize for a marriage visa:

Extension or stay - not covered

Single/Multiple entry visas covered by amnesty.

?

if i'm on a one year extension of stay on an existing non-b work visa, this is a temporary permission of stay and therefore would be covered by this amnesty, no?

Where is that, Sheryl?

If you can qualify for another one year extension of stay you should apply for it. It is not clear you would be able to apply for it later if you do not do it when it is due.

I don't qualify, I left the job.
