Koh Jan, Chonburi, police and rescue services were called after a pick-up with Bangkok plates plowed into a house, snapped a power pole and demolished a roti stand at the local market.

The accident caused a power outage and rescue teams had to wait for the power to be turned off before assisting the driver.

The power pole had fallen on the base of his neck.

After he was cut out - an operation taking 30 minutes - Anai-monchai, 48,  a local man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident also ruptured a water main.

Nobody saw what happened but when there was a loud bang and the lights went out people rushed to the scene and called the rescue services, reported Pattaya Update News.

Did the outage not turn the power off?   LOL

Koh Jan, Chonburi

? Another challenge. No island.

Its Ko Chan district some 40 km east of Chonburi city.

The outage was probably caused by the pickup hitting the power pole and cutting off the power there, it would not necessarily cut off the power to the pole.

I would have thought that the downing of the pole would have caused both electricity in and out to be cut off. But better to be safe than sorry.

No chance it was during the witching hour and he was drunk and had a microsleep now possibly.  RIP to the deceased, and hopefully he was already deceased because of a medical issue prior to the accident and not unseatbelted sustaining blunt force trauma, or electrocution.  Must of been a shower of sparks and with water running made it hard for rescuers to get to the vehicle until the power was all turned off.

Good to see the driving is back to normal in Thailand Wait till Songkran There will be even more spectacular accidents

If anything it is 'the new normal'.... with less traffic about there is more speeding and racing around and going in the wrong direction going on. Add into the mix the flood of those awful Bangkok drivers startled into heavy footedness by a clear bit of road ahead of them. It was all safer when stationary.

Took out a power pole, a roti stand and a water main in one movement. Cool, that's 20 points on GTA.

3 strikes and you're out.

To do that amount of damage he must have been driving at high speed and wildly.

Serious question, has anyone seen a policeman lately or are they all in Bangkok beating up students?
