Thai PM, Prayut Chan-o-cha, during the televised addredd on April 16, 2021.

The televised address by Thai prime minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, on Friday was widely criticized. Experts said it is not just because of the issue of communication skills, but also the expectation and the surrounding situation that led to that moment, and the momentum was missed.

Asst.Prof. Dr.Tavida Kamolvej, the dean of the faculty of Political Science at Thammasat University, said that, in a crisis, momentum is also an important element.

“Momentum creates synergy, to which you really want society to react, unite and change behavior and help the nation. So, the momentum, when people wait for something to happen, you’ve got to have it,” Dr. Tavida said.

Well in case of a “retirement” there will always be the Legacy of that smartly engineered bicycle lane in Bangkok and that traditional style thai flower market. ????????

He is living proof that the words military and intelligence should not be in juxtaposition.

Military Intelligence is the most laughable oxymoron ever when applied to a cabinet of morons.

Well, to be fair, he really was just meant to overthrow the government, rule during the interegnum, then step aside.

One assumes that someone or some group, thought that he'd be a good PM. Oops. Epic fail. But what can be done now? Really nothing. Ride the one horse and hope it doesn't die before anotehr coup becomes necessary.

A bit like waiting for Songkran to end before doing anything?

Having been in the military throughout his professional life.......................................

Ne should have stayed there, it would have been better for all of Thailand had he done so !

And to think that only a few short years ago this military gent was charged with defending this Realm against all possible attackers

This bloke must have been watching the rugby. If the commentators do not say momentum 50 times during a match they will be sacked.

seems he misses all the momentum opportunities ; i wonder if he realizes how unliked he is among the thinking

Forget the 'thinking', his primary/secondary/tertiary interest is the 'monied'.

Dr. Tavida added that any country in this intense situation needs a leader that not only comes out strong but can also create confidence. A leader that can show empathy, and make sense of what is going on.

More than likely only Prayuth and a portion of his subordinates would describe him as being "strong". In terms of showing empathy, is that something we have ever seen from this man? He is as out of touch as them come. A true Ivory tower sort of guy.

And in terms of making sense of what is going on, you need policy, competent ministers with experience in the fields their ministries are in charge of, and at least a tiny amount of vision and planning. Prayuth lacks every pre-requisite. So do most of his ministers. Especially Anutin and Pipat. Likely the two least qualified and least effective of the lot. One would think during a national emergency, a skilled and talented tourism and  health minister would be considered important.

Lastly, he does not inspire confidence, as he has no follow up in his game, is highly insincere, and is grossly incompetent and under qualified for the job. One would think after 6 plus years he has had time to learn. That does not appear to be the case. He is a terrible leader.

Didn't miss his opportunity to have a coup and grab power and since then has not missed an opportunity to stifle all opposition and cling to power.
